West Ham United’s hopes of keeping Lucas Paqueta take a hit as Kevin De Bruyne suffers injury during Manchester City win over Burnley.

Kevin De Bruyne was taken off after 23 minutes against Burnley last night, after suffering what looked like a hamstring injury.

And that could be really bad news for West Ham with Man City eyeing a summer transfer window move to sign Lucas Paqueta this summer (Independent).

Hammers boss David Moyes needs to strengthen his squad urgently, not weaken it. So losing the Brazilian to Man City would be a major blow.

Now it seems like Manchester City could ramp up their interest in the 25-year-old West Ham star…

The injury looked like a serious one, as De Bruyne was comforted by his teammates after going down and being forced off inside the first-half of Manchester City’s clash with Burnley last night.

And Pep Guardiola told reporters how he expects the Belgian to be our for at least a few weeks (The Guardian).

I believe that the City boss will now go all out for Paqueta, and not just because De Bruyne is out for a few weeks.

The Belgian is 32 now, and suffered numerous knocks and niggles last season.

He’s not getting any younger, and those injuries will undoubtedly occur more frequently now.

Whilst Paqueta isn’t in De Bruyne’s league, Guardiola will be able to turn the West Ham star into a world-class player, and if Man City make a huge offer for the Brazilian – something in excess of £90 million – then it will be very hard to keep him at the London Stadium.

And the injury suffered by Kevin De Bruyne last night could see Manchester City expedite their pursuit of the West Ham star.
