Wolves braced for £50m January transfer window interest from Arsenal
The latest Wolves transfer news as Arsenal are tipped to make a swoop for Pedro Neto in January
Wolves could be set for a big transfer development in January with Arsenal reportedly interested in reigniting their interest in Pedro Neto.
The Gunners enquired about Neto in the summer window after initial interest last season.
According to the Telegraph, Arsenal enquired about Wolves winger Neto after choosing not to sign him 12 months ago when his price tag was roughly £50million.
Injuries and inconsistent form could result in that asking price deteriorating and despite not pursuing a move this summer, Arsenal have been handed a potential boost if they choose to return in January. In the same report taking a look at Wolves’ chaotic summer, it has been noted that Gary O’Neil will look to complete a squad exodus in the winter window in order to sign a new striker.
This likely means selling fringe players. However, allowing Neto to depart would give Wolves a sizeable fee to spend on a new attacking addition and give Arsenal their Bukayo Saka back-up option that many supporters have been clamouring for.
The 23-year-old may have only scored one league goal in the last two seasons, but he has already started the new campaign in fine form with three assists to his name. With his value from 2022 perhaps decreasing and Wolves’ need to sell appearing important, Arteta and Edu could secure a very good deal if that enquiry is followed up on in January.
On the flip side, the selling at Wolves has to end at some point, and O’Neill will be hoping that is very much the case come January time. He will know and so will the board that an exit for Neto would send out all the wrong messages to a fanbase who have reluctantly sat by and watched a new, less alluring era begin.
A Neto sale could be the final straw needed to spark a mutinous reaction from fans, and it would clearly have an unsettling effect on the team.
It remains to be seen if the Gunners do come in for Neto in January, but there’s definitely a gold and black army of fans hoping it’s one to chalk off as a rumour.
