Pompey boss wants to purchase City loan ace.
Portsmouth v Norwich City: John Mousinho’s thoughts on Abou Kamara . Abou Kamara has been a revelation on loan at Pompey – but manager John Mousinho is confident there is no chance of Norwich selling the young forward. Kamara scored his first goal for Pompey in their 3-1 win over Peterborough before the international break.
Since sealing a season-long move, Kamara has featured in five of the South Coast club’s first nine games. City boss David Wagner insists a recall clause was included in the deal for the young player, who made his senior Canaries debut at the end of last season. And, according to Mouvinho, Kamara is set to be a first-team player for the foreseeable future. He added: “We’d love to sign him next summer, but I think if he keeps going the way he has, we’ll have him next season. We’ll see what happens next year.” Mouvinho added: “Let’s be honest, we wouldn’t want to rush into anything, but we would definitely look into the future. For example, if it were up to us to go on loan to Plymouth and then Norwich decide they won’t let him go, then we would look into next year. But, of course, we have no idea what the finances would be, if Abu would go, etc.”
It is clear from our conversations with Norwich that they were very keen for him to take on this loan, as it will give him a lot of experience and will have an impact on their first team. However, it is possible that if Norwich are promoted, they may take a different route – and if they are not, they could still take a different route. Abu’s ambition is to play in the Championship next season, and he can make that happen by helping the club to be promoted. According to manager Louis Mousinho, Kamara will be a strong player now that he has achieved a milestone in his career. “We saw him in the Forest Green game and then the first half against Stevenage when he was threatening and there was a 15-20 minute spell where he scored and then in the second half he took players on and forced a great save from the keeper and then he scored a third goal,” Mousinho said. “That is what we will see from him, putting together a full, 90-minute performance.”
