Brighton and Hove Albion are the latest club to enter the race for Boca Juniors midfielder Ezequiel Fernandez.
According to a recent rumor from Fichajes in Spain, the Seagulls have ‘made an offer’ for the highly-rated Argentine.
However, Roberto De Zerbi’s side aren’t the only ones interested in signing Fernandez, 21. Several big clubs are said to be interested in the midfielder.
With Boca Juniors apparently resigned to lose their brilliant defensive midfielder in the next transfer windows, the South American giants have reportedly set a £16 million asking price for the 21-year-old.
.
Although Fernandez’s next destination remains unknown, the AMEX Stadium could pose an attractive option. Not only is De Zerbi one of football’s most highly-rated coaches, but the club have a solid track record of developing young talent.
Similar to the way Borussia Dortmund plot their player’s pathways in Germany, Brighton have become arguably one of England’s most well-run and well-respected clubs.

Management team have ‘clear conscience’ after sending player to Brighton
Since Joan Laporte returned as Barcelona president, and especially since Xavi Hernandez rocked up as manager, the Catalan media have been falling over themselves to praise the club.
One may think that questions should be asked over the various financial ‘levers’ and what harm that could do the club in the future, but, no, for the Catalan media it’s all sunny around the Blaugrana.
In this theme, Sunday’s edition of Sport has a column stating Barca’s management team have a ‘clear conscience’ after sending Ansu Fati to Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer.
Ansu Fati arrived at the Premier League club on a season long loan and will hope to develop further under Roberto De Zerbi’s management.
Sport state: ‘For months they tried to see the forward’s progression day by day in training, but the expected evolution did not occur. Ansu did not recover the expected level and in training he did not make a difference.’
The fact that they’re going to such efforts to argue it was the right decision demonstrates that many definitely have reservations about moving the player to Brighton; otherwise, they wouldn’t keep trying to defend it.
It’s a nice opportunity for the Seagulls, but it’s flavored with displeasure. Because, as the Catalan media has frequently stated, if Ansu Fati shines at Brighton, it is highly likely that Barcelona will just swoop in and benefit from his efforts.
