Chelsea’secretly’ break ways with another Brighton appointment as Todd Boehly laments a £21 million blunder.
Following Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Aston Villa, Mauricio Pochettino has been given a severe blow. The Blues have now gone three games without a win in the Premier League, and they are in 14th with only five points after six games.
When the final whistle blew at Stamford Bridge, the home crowd poured out a chorus of boos to make their feelings known. With several tough games on the horizon, Pochettino is under immense pressure to turn around Spurs’ fortunes before they face Arsenal next month.
So, in the next days, the 51-year-old will put his men through rigorous training at Cobham. However, after only four months of working with Pochettino, a member of Chelsea’s first-team coaching staff has resigned.
The Telegraph reports that Bruno Saltor has’secretly’ departed Chelsea, with the club paying out the remainder of his contract. He arrived at Stamford Bridge last year after the Blues paid £21 million for Graham Potter and his Brighton team.
According to the Telegraph, Chelsea has decided not to publicly announce Bruno’s departure. Only Ben Roberts, head of goalkeeping, and Kyle Macaulay, a statistics analyst, remain from the team that Potter brought with him from the Seagulls.
Upon being named as interim Blues manager in April 2023, Bruno said: “Obviously, it’s been a difficult 24 hours for all of us, for the staff, for the families and now we just have to deal with the situation.”
Then, when asked whether he hesitated about taking on the role following his partner’s sacking, the Spaniard replied: “If I am here right now, it’s because Graham and the club they thought it was the right step and I’m here just trying to help the club and trying to be the most professional I can.”
The’secret’ decision to cut ways with Bruno comes just hours after Gary Neville indicated that Chelsea manager Todd Boehly would make some changes. Following Chelsea’s defeat to Aston Villa, the former Manchester United defender asked on his podcast, “What are Chelsea doing?!”
“What is going on?” I have enormous faith in Mauricio Pochettino, but he has a large deck of cards and is unsure which hand to play. What’s going on at Chelsea is a mystery.
“Chaos can just flow through a club at times.” I believe they will make some adjustments in how they conduct business. In the current state of affairs, I don’t see this lasting. It’s insane.”
