“At a loss for words” – Norwich City player thankful for affection from fans, hopeful for big season
Prior to Norwich City’s EFL Cup clash against Fulham tonight, the Brazilian media have had a chat with Canaries’ midfielder Gabriel Sara.
Following his first year in the Championship, the 24-year-old is off to another good start to the season with one goal and three assists in the league so far, and is quite glad about his adaptation to English football.
Speaking to Lance, Sara also thanked the support he’s been getting from Norwich City fans since his arrival at the club.
“My adaptation to the game and to life here has really been quicker than I imagined,” he told the outlet.
“I already feel at home in England, and I’m at a loss for words to repay the fans’ affection.
“Unfortunately, we missed out on the Premier League last season, but I think we’ve got a great chance of making it this year.”
Regarding tonight’s game against Fulham, Sara claims to be happy to be facing a team which is full of Brazilians, and says he’ll try to make the most of that experience.
“It’s going to be a very tough game, that’s for sure, especially at their place,” he added.
“It’s a privilege to face players with so much history here in England, like Willian and Andreas (Pereira), who are guys I’ve admired for years. But our team has its weapons and I hope to have a great night, keep up my good form and help Norwich come out qualified.”
Norwich City spent €10.5m to sign Sara from São Paulo in the summer of 2022. It didn’t take long for him to guarantee his place in the team, and with an even higher morale this season, he was a starter in all of their Championship games so far.
Transfermarkt valued the player at €5.5m when he made the move to England, and now rates him at €12m. His contract with the Canaries runs until 2026, with an option for an extra year.
It’s Enormous – Former Norwich City Star Clear On Birmingham Game Importance
Former Norwich City star Chris Sutton has warned the Canaries that they will be under massive security if they lose against Birmingham City on Saturday.
Despite a bright start to the season, David Wagner’s side have encountered a stumbling block with their form as Norwich have suffered three defeats out of their last four games.
The Canaries went to Home Park last weekend and conceded six goals against Plymouth Argyle, which has sparked dissatisfaction in some sectors of the Norwich supporters.
Sutton stated that the game against Birmingham is going to be very important for Norwich and added that if the players can show some resolve to win the game, it might turn their season around.
However, the former Canaries star also warned Norwich’s players that a defeat at the hands of Birmingham will put them under massive scrutiny.
“If they can show a bit of resolve and win on Saturday, it can act as a catalyst for improvement”, Sutton wrote in his Pink Un column.
“That’s the way I would like them to think.
“There is an element of doubling down and showing determination to prevent it from happening again.
“Birmingham is a really important game.
“If Norwich end up winning the game, then it will be viewed as a blip.
“If they get beat, suddenly it is four defeats in five then there will be more questions asked and more scrutiny applied.
“It is an enormous game of football.”
Norwich will take on Fulham at Craven Cottage today before facing Birmingham City at Carrow Road at the weekend.
