SAD NEWS:Towns talented star is scheduled for surgery while………
Town manager Kieran McKenna has confirmed that midfielder Lee Evans will have knee surgery after injuring his knee against Huddersfield on Saturday, while centre-half Cameron Burgess was left out of today’s squad due to a tactical adjustment.
Evans was substituted in the second half at John Smith’s Stadium and was not included in the team this evening due to a scan.
“Unfortunately, Lee Evans has an MCL (medial collateral ligament) injury, so he will have surgery tomorrow.” “I’m very sorry for him and the football club,” McKenna remarked.
“A fantastic player and person, but after speaking with him, I believe he can now resolve the couple of issues he’s had with that knee and avoid surgery.”
“So he’s going to have the surgical repair, which will keep him out for a while, but if all goes well, it should give him a knee in really, really good condition, giving him a chance to have a good run at his career again, because he’s been really unlucky with it.”
“We’re disappointed with that for us and for Lee, but I’m sure he’ll throw himself into the recovery and come back strongly again.”
McKenna said of Burgess, who was replaced at the heart of the defense by George Edmundson: “Cameron’s fine, I just wanted to put George in tonight.” We thought he’d been practicing well, playing well in cup events, and I liked his qualities against againstLiam Delap would be really valuable.
“There aren’t many more powerful runners than George against one of the league’s more powerful runners.”
“We thought some of their pressing angles might open up some passes for him, as a right-footer.”
“Cameron’s been excellent as well, so it was just a selection tonight and, as we’ve seen, we’re not tending to put a centre-half on the bench very often, so they all understand that that’s the plan.”
