Wolves’ goalkeeping department isn’t getting any younger, with an average age of 30. Now it is said they wanted a young keeper in the summer.

José Sá while brilliant is inconsistent and despite his new contract, it is unlikely he spends the tail end at Wolves.

Under him, Daniel Bentley and Tom King are both no first choice standard, and aged 30 and 28 respectively aren’t expected to improve.

Due to these reasons, Wolves are believed to have been in the market for an exciting young goalkeeper last summer.

This comes from Fabrizio Romano who claims Guillaume Restes was a player Wolves had bid for.

Romano on Guillaume Restes to Wolves

Transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano reported on X, that Wolves were keen on 18-year-old Guillaume Restes from Toulouse. It is said that Old Gold ‘wanted to sign’ the youngster.

However it was also added that Toulouse rejected approaches from the Molineux side during the summer before adding that he is ‘one to watch’.

The Frenchman is a regular for his club in Ligue 1 and is clearly a goalkeeper with a huge future ahead of him.

Who is Restes?

Restes is a French under-21 goalkeeper who has currently got four clean sheets in 11 games.

These have come across the Ligue 1 and Europa League along with also performing under Thierry Henry for France under 21.

Restes boasts a 82% save percentage which ranks in the 99th percentile for his positional peers.

Definitely a goalkeeper we expect will be at one of Europes elite over the next few years given his performances at a really young age.

Wolves boss Gary O’Neil fires ‘beat Aston Villa’ warning after Manchester City upset

Gary O'Neil fires Wolves warning to Aston Villa after Man City shock - Birmingham Live

Wolves boss Gary O’Neil has warned his players they cannot expect to “just walk on the pitch and beat Aston Villa” after upsetting Manchester City last week.

The Wolves players pulled off a major shock with a 2-1 victory against City last weekend, and while the win was a huge positive for everyone associated with the club, O’Neil will not allow the players to get ahead of themselves. In his pre-match press conference this week, he spoke of the dangers Villa posed.

He warned his own players to guard against complacency after beating the reigning Premier League champions. Villa pose a different challenge and it will be a “tough test” for his players, he said.

“We tend to reset after every game,” said O’Neil. “We approach the next one as the next game, regardless of whether we’ve won, whether we’ve lost and there can obviously be a different mood around the group when you’ve lost, but in terms of preparing for the game and what it is, it’s just a completely different challenge.

“We’ve tried to prep the lads this week as we have done every other week. There’s been no change, but we made sure that just because we beat Man City it doesn’t mean we can just walk on the pitch and beat Aston Villa.

“This is a tough test, so we need to make sure we take it as seriously as we do any other game. They’ve got a two-day turnaround, so it’s not like it’s unbelievably close for them, but we’ve had a full week, we’ve had a clear week, we’ve not had too many injuries, so I’m hopeful that we be in a really good place, start the game quickly, especially at home and then try to stick to the plan and make sure we execute.”

O’Neil had glowing words when asked about his opposite number Unai Emery. “He’s done incredibly well,” he said. “I played against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa last season and they were very good.

“They’ve got a really good understanding of their structure and what he’s trying to do with them, and they’ve added some good signings into the squad too. They’ve got some great players too, with Ollie Watkins back in the England squad, Jacob Ramsey is a big threat, Diaby – who they signed in the summer – is a big threat, so it’s a strong squad.

“It will be a good test for us, but one that we’re ready for. The boys understand what Aston Villa are and what to expect, it’s one more day’s prep for us and then into a local derby that I’m sure everyone’s looking forward too.”

On making his players aware of the derby between Villa and Wolves, he added: “It would be different from a player point of view because if you’re brought up in the West Midlands and you’ve been to the game as a fan then you’d understand exactly what it is, but they get a real good understanding from the supporters and what it means to the area.

“They know it’s an important game for the spectators, but all of them are nowadays, so we understand our job every week is to make sure we win, make sure we put smiles on some faces and everyone’s happy.”
