Browns should trade for ‘frustrated’ four-time Pro Bowl RB

The trade deadline is Oct. 31, and the Browns should bolster their backfield with a four-time Pro Bowler who is apparently dissatisfied with his status.

Dalvin Cook of the New York Jets is that player. Cook revealed that he has been upset with his diminished role for New York since the return of second-year RB Breece Hall, who tore his ACL in 2022.

“Of course it’s frustrating,” Cook remarked, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “I’m a straight shooter, man. I work. “I’d like to play.”

The 28-year-old signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Jets in the offseason with the belief he would play a key role for the offense. That hasn’t been the case as he’s rushed for just 114 yards and zero touchdowns in seven games.

Cook said he’s not necessarily seeking a trade but that he’s certainly open to the idea if it’s what’s “best for everybody.”

“It’s something I can’t control, that my name is being floated around in trade rumors,” Cook added. “It might be a good thing.”

In Week 2, Cleveland lost top running back Nick Chubb for the season. Adding Cook to a running back room that already features Jerome Ford and Kareem Hunt would provide the team with much-needed depth, especially given Ford’s low-grade high ankle sprain.

According to Over the Cap, the Browns have just under $34 million in cap space, so money isn’t an issue. Cook should be available for no more than a late-round pick.

Given Hall’s injury history, the Jets may be unwilling to part ways with him. However, if they are, Cleveland should contact them in what may be a low-risk, high-reward approach.
