Sad news for Ohio State as key man is out for the season or even more

Following surgery, an Ohio State football player is now out for the season.

The Ohio State football squad is starting to get hurt. Emeka Egbuka has been out for the last two games due to a lower-body injury. Lathan Ransom was forced to leave the game due to a leg injury. Kyle McCord was limping around the field last night after being rolled up on. It’s not ideal to be injured this late in the season.

The Buckeyes have taken a huge hit in the running back room. Miyan Williams, who had 20+ carries last week against Penn State, is gone for the season after undergoing surgery. Ryan Day made the announcement during his press conference today.

While Day did not specify what kind of injury this is, it seems to have something to do with his legs. This is a significant injury that limits the depth that the Ohio State football team has in the running back room. They just got TreVeyon Henderson back from injury so now they really can’t afford to have him go down.

With Williams out for the season, that just leaves Henderson, Chip Trayanum, Dallan Hayden, and Evan Pryor as backs to use. Day has already said he prefers Hayden to redshirt, so that really just leaves the three other guys. Henderson and Trayanum are the two who will get the most snaps.

We’ll see how this affects playcalling from Day down the stretch of the season. Obviously, Henderson is the number one guy and the best back the Buckeyes have. They want to have him on the field as much as possible for these last few games. Having Williams as an option would have been nice though.

It’s a significant setback, but one that the Ohio State Buckeyes can overcome. They continue to be a pass-first squad. They’ve also relied on defense to win games, and the defense is in good shape right now, excluding the aforementioned Ransom.

 

We don’t know if Williams’ Ohio State football career is gone because he is a senior. Maybe he’ll use his COVID year to return. We’ll have to wait and see what he decides.
