‘Klopp is very confident’: After Endo, Klopp thinks £20m midfielder is going to join Liverpool – journalist

Liverpool have been waiting for new midfield signings for weeks now, and just like London busses, after waiting for a long time, two may be about to come along at once.

Wataru Endo is reportedly on the verge of being announced as a new Liverpool player, and he’s not the only midfielder from the Bundesliga who could be set for a move to Anfield.

Indeed, according to Christian Falk, Liverpool are preparing a £20m offer for Ryan Gravenberch, and Jurgen Klopp is reportedly very confident that this deal will get done.

This is quite the turn of events.

This time last week, it looked as though Liverpool could be signing two midfielders from the Premier League, but now, it looks as though a Bundesliga raid could be on the cards.

Gravenberch is a player who has been linked with Liverpool for ages at this point. In fact, a few months ago Jose Enrique made the audacious claim that this was a done deal heading into the summer.

Enrique’s prophecy may well prove to be true as Liverpool appear to be closing in on this signing.

The Bayern Munich ace hasn’t been in the best of form over the past 12 months, but we mustn’t forget just how good this young man was at Ajax.

He was seen as one of Europe’s top talents during his time in Amsterdam, and under the tutelage of Jurgen Klopp he could well get his career back on track.

Interestingly, Liverpool could have plenty of money left over after doing this deal. Endo is set to cost £15m, while Gravenberch will be £20m.

A combined £35m on two midfielders is a far cry from the £110m Liverpool were ready to commit to signing Caicedo this time last week, so don’t be shocked if the Reds do dip back into the market for some defensive reinforcements after concluding these two deals.

Jürgen Klopp and Jörg Schmadtke will need to find more solutions to fix up the Reds’ squad, with there being fairly strong arguments for signing another midfielder on top of Endo and at least one defender as well.

There are now only 14 days before the transfer deadline arrives, meaning that Liverpool will need to continue to work quickly having missed out on Moisés Caicedo and Roméo Lavia, the latter of whom was announced as a new Chelsea player earlier today.

No player is likely to be available that can be as transformative as Caicedo would have been at Anfield, but that does not mean that there is no quality out there capable of making a substantial difference.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today, with more midfielders being suggested as targets, including one entirely new name on the rumor mill.

Mario Lemina (Wolves)

Furious response as Wolves suffer 'outrageous' Mario Lemina red card at Southampton - Birmingham Live

Liverpool has been named as a surprise suitor for former Southampton and current Wolves midfielder Mario Lemina this summer by Foot Mercato, but at 29, it appears to be an unlikely move for the Reds to make.

Two other Premier League clubs are also said to be keen, as well as sides in Saudi Arabia, with a transfer away a ‘possibility’ for the talented holding midfield player.

Liverpool.com says: Lemina has always been a tidy player with a decent amount of energy but it would appear to be unlikely that Liverpool would make a move for him. Wataru Endo was also a surprise of course, but that only makes it even less likely that there would be a second surprise in the space of the same week or so.

Sofyan Amrabat (Fiorentina)

Liverpool is ‘close’ to signing Sofyan Amrabat, according to Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad, with the 26-year-old midfielder also drawing interest from both Manchester United and Atlético Madrid.

A $38m (£30m/€35m) fee was agreed with West Ham United earlier in the summer, the report states, before the player rejected the move, meaning that is the sum that the Serie A side is seeking to cash in.

But David Lynch (for This Is Anfield) and others have reported that Amrabat is not a target for the Reds. Manchester United has been keen for a while now and seems a more realistic destination for the Morrocan.

Liverpool.com says: Amrabat was a player that was easily attainable in January when Liverpool desperately needed midfield reinforcements. To get him now would be a strange move, which makes a switch elsewhere far more likely.
