Transfer portal news: Georgia, Ohio State threat to jump in QB as FSU pulls back
More than 90 quarterbacks entered the college football transfer portal, and some of the top signal-callers on the market already announced their destination schools. Others like Washington State’s Cameron Ward and Kansas State’s Will Howard are the subject of intense recruiting battles between several of the nation’s premier programs.
Ohio State lost starting quarterback Kyle McCord to the portal and are a threat in the transfer market, according to 247Sports reporter Chris Hummer, 247Sports reporter Matt Zenitz and ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Georgia awaits an NFL decision from starter Carson Beck and is liable to make some noise transfer circuit if he turns pro.
LSU loses star quarterback Jayden Daniels this offseason but is a candidate to stay put thanks to other options on the roster.
Here is the latest reporting on several of the transfer portal’s top quarterbacks, per Zenitz, Hummer and Thamel:
LOUISVILLE IS AN IDEAL LANDING SPOT FOR TYLER SHOUGH
Tyler Shough has “NFL ability,” according to Zenitz, and will be in a great spot to put it on display next season under Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm.
“Louisville picked up Tyler Shough, a talented guy,” Thamel said, via the College GameDay Podcast. He had a broken collarbone, re-injured that shoulder the next year, and then this year, had a broken fibula. It’ll be interesting to see him with Jeff Brohm, who should always be a top veteran portal target for quarterbacks because they huck it. He’s a great play caller.”
