Breaking: Gators set to host 5-star before signing day
Florida is set to get a crown jewel of their 2024 class back in town ahead of signing day
The final weekend of recruiting visits is upcoming ahead of the December 20th start to the Early Signing Period. Florida only has one official visitor on Swamp247’s expected list as of Monday afternoon, but with the dash to the finish line coming up, and the Transfer Portal as wild as it’s been since it’s opening, you should expect that list to grow in the coming days. However, Florida is expected to host an important visitor in town on an unofficial visit as well Swamp247 has learned. That is Willis (TX) five-star quarterback DJ Lagway.
Why is it an important visit for someone who has been committed to Florida for over a year now? Mainly due to the fact that despite that longstanding commitment, other schools have been inquiring on the talented signal caller as the Early Signing Period closes in. According to 247Sports Steve Wiltfong, Lagway’s father mentioned new Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko had been in to see the family. New Houston head coach Willie Fritz has also inquired on the talented passes as well after getting situated at his new program also, and is expected to drop by the school this week.
“They just got new jobs there and they called us,” The elder Lagway told Wiltfong of Houston and Texas A&M. “We’re just sitting down and listening to them.”
Florida Football Recruiting: Jadan Baugh is a shifty freight train
Florida football is in need of a running back or two after Trevor Etienne opted to hit the transfer portal upon the conclusion of the 2023 season.
His departure has opened the door for Billy Napier and his staff to circle back to an early target from the class of 2024.
Florida Football: One man show
When we last checked in on Jadan Baugh back in May, we noted that he was a do-it-all athlete.
At the time, we said:
“At his best, Baugh is a master at getting out of tight spaces and is a nightmare for opposing defenses to bring down. He’s not a QB that runs in a power set compared to Kahnen Daniels; more so, he’s a player that Coumbia High moves all around the field to find creative ways to get him the ball and let him do his thing.”
Not much changed during Baugh’s senior season with Columbia.
Being recruited as a running back, Baugh is listed at 6’1″ and 215 pounds. He is not a burner, with a 100-meter dash time of 11.35 seconds, but no one could catch him during the 2023 season.
Whether he ran up the gut or bounced to the outside, on film Baugh rarely had to use his power to shed tackles because he was elusive enough that opposing defenders never touched him.
As a slot receiver, Baugh had some impressive corner catches, showcasing hands better than some other four-star receivers we have reviewed.
His entire senior year Hudl film can be found here.
Baugh committed to Arkansas in May, but Florida football is making one final push to flip the Georgia native. Baugh was on campus this past weekend and told Cam Parker of All Gators Fan Nation, “I’m very much wanted here.”
Early signing day is around the corner, and Napier is hoping for some good news as he fights to keep the Gators in the top five for the class of 2024.
