As things stand, the Clarets are looking to bolster the left-hand side of their defence. To that end, the Spanish national is on the Turf Moor side’s radar ahead of their Premier League opener against Manchester City on 11 August.
In the summer of 2020, the Red Devils signed the 20-year-old from Real Madrid. Subsequently, the youngster has featured heavily for the Old Trafford side’s reserve team over the years.
United are yet to hand Fernandez his first-team debut. While he has made the bench on a few occasions, the left-back has not been given a chance to showcase his talent for the Manchester-based club yet.
However, last season, the defender was on loan at Preston North End and impressed many with his performances. He made 42 appearances in all competitions for the Championship outfit, providing six assists and was named their Young Player of the Year.
As for Burnley, they have made their way back to the English top flight after playing some mesmerising football under Vincent Kompany. The Clarets have Charlie Taylor in their ranks as their left-back for now.
At United, Erik ten Hag has Luke Shaw at his disposal. The England international was pivotal to the Dutch manager’s plans in the 2022/23 term and put in consistent displays.
The former Ajax Amsterdam head coach also has Tyrel Malacia in his ranks. While the gaffer did not count on the Holland national a lot, he was still given opportunities on a regular basis.
