Celtic agree on fee for midfielder’s sale – Problem as player ‘isn’t tempted’ by transfer on offer
A week or so ago, we covered the latest involving Celtic’s sale of Ismaïla Soro to Valenciennes, and how the Ligue 2 side could get in trouble for their actions in the deal negotiated with Brendan Rodgers’ side.
This came as their director of football, former defender Ben Chorley, had dismissed the player’s agent from the talks and used his own English intermediary to try and get a transfer over the line.
The French Football Federation were watching the situation closely, but the latest update from Foot Mercato suggests they might never have to look into it, as the Celtic player isn’t overly thrilled by the idea of a move to France.
The website explain that despite the Parkhead side and their counterparts agreeing a fee of €150k for the transfer, Soro ‘isn’t tempted’ by the challenge on offer.
In fact, the Celtic midfielder would prefer to move to Beitar Jerusalem, who are also keen on the Ivorian.
A blow for Celtic, who will either have to convince him that a move to France is better for him, or negotiate with the Israeli side to get that deal over the line.

Celtic ‘agree’ to sell Ismaila Soro; fee reported as club set to take a financial hit
Celtic have agreed to sell fringe player, Ismaila Soro, according to a report from Footmercato. The club are set to take a big financial loss on the midfielder as they look to get him off the wage bill.
The report says, “According to our reports, Celtic have reached an agreement with Valenciennes to transfer the player in exchange for €150,000.”
67 Hail Hail discussed how Beitar Jerusalem and Hapoel Be’er Sheva were both credited as wanting the Ivorian midfielder. Of course, it was from Israel that Celtic acquired the 25-year-old back in 2020 when Neil Lennon shelled out £2m for the battling midfielder from Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv.
Soro hasn’t had the best of careers at Celtic. Despite impressing early in the ten-in-a-row season, after just 23 appearances he quickly found himself surpluses to requirements after the arrival of Ange Postecoglou.
Admittedly, he was used by the Australian early in his tenure but that was more out of necessity as Postecoglou looked to rebuild the team.
Soro was then shipped out on loan to Portugal where he spent a season out on loan at FC Arouca. In a fairly successful spell at the club, Soro made 30 appearances for Arouca and helped them into the European spots in Portugal’s Primera Liga.
But his future now lies elsewhere. Soro wasn’t involved in any of Celtic’s preseason preparations under Brendan Rodgers this summer and it looks now, that he could be on his way out of Glasgow sooner rather than later.
Hopefully, he can the move that he wants. With just one international cap to his name, you would imagine Soro would be keen to get more football under his belt to revive his international career.
