Daniel Podence Update – Celtic looking to negotiate down the price for Wolves winger
Sky Sports have reported tonight that Celtic are hoping to negotiate the price for Wolverhampton Wanderers winger, Daniel Podence, should the club decide to firm up their interest in the Portuguese player. It comes after the Daily Mail reported that Celtic are amongst the club’s keeping an eye on Podence as we get closer to the transfer window shutting.
Podence was once a £20 million forward when Wolves decided to scoop him up from Greece with Olympiacos back in 2020. It was an expensive investment and it would be fair to say, it hasn’t gone as well as either party would have hoped this last few years in the Midlands. He has played a number of games in that time but he hasn’t set the heather on fire at Mollineux.
Now with one year left on his current deal, Wolves manager Gary O’Neil is looking to part company with the winger and get some funds for his own rebuild after the departure of Julen Lopetegui recently. It’s believed that despite the short-term left on his contract, Wolves still want to recoup about £12 million for the Portugal cap.
Sky Sports’ Danyal Khan, who is based in the Midlands, has revealed this evening on social media that should the Parkhead powerbrokers seek to make their interest concrete and decide on a formal approach. Taking to Twitter in the past while, he said:
“Celtic are interested in Wolves winger Daniel Podence. Wolves want £12m for him, but Celtic would want that to be a lower fee with one year left on his contract.”
