Exclusive: Two West Ham targets was not affected by Paqueta issue
West Ham are likely to have been blindsided by the recent Lucas Paqueta news, but that’s not likely to affect their potential pursuit of two transfer targets.
David Moyes is slowly but surely seeing the club getting deals over the line for players, and with just under two weeks left of the summer window, there’s a strong likelihood that there’ll be more incomings.
Paqueta’s situation – he is being investigated by the Football Association for betting rule breaches per BBC Sport sources – is unclear.
Whether Moyes plays him in the interim period or not shouldn’t dictate whether he decides to bring in another player in his position, given that the Hammers will need strength in depth with a Europa League campaign ahead.
‘For Jesse Lingard, West Ham are not discussing a contract at this stage,’ Fabrizio Romano wrote in his exclusive CaughtOffside Substack.
‘And with regards to Cole Palmer, for sure the Hammers remain interested but Manchester City will only accept a deal under their conditions. Not easy.’
After gaining a point against Bournemouth in West Ham’s opening match of the 2023/24 Premier League season, Moyes will be hoping that a first home game of the campaign against Chelsea can bring the east Londoners three points.
Just as important as getting wins on the board is having a settled dressing room.
Until their transfer business is concluded, both from an incoming and outgoing perspective, West Ham won’t have that, so the sooner that the powers that be can make their decisions, the better.

Big West Ham fan favourite Pablo Fornals wants a La Liga return as Sevilla and Real Betis prepare bids claim AS in Spain.
Pablo Fornals is a massive favourite among West Ham fans but has been linked with a move away in this summer transfer window.
‘Cockney Carzola’ Fornals did not get as much game time as he would have liked with the Hammers last season.
David Moyes recently admitted Fornals often frustrates him but also praised the Spaniard for his vision.
El Desmarque recently reported that Manuel Pellegrini – the man who signed Fornals for West Ham – wants to a reunion with him at Real Betis.

Now big West Ham fan favourite Fornals wants a La Liga return as Sevilla and Real Betis prepare bids claim AS in Spain.
AS is reporting today that Sevilla are seriously keen on signing Fornals and claims West Ham could be willing to sell for around £8m as he only has one year left on his contract.
Crucially, though, AS claims Fornals “wants to return to La Liga” with Betis also still interested ahead of the transfer deadline in less than two weeks.
‘West Ham could be willing to sell Fornals for £5-8m’ claim Spanish press
“The Nervionense team has surveyed the Castellón player’s environment in recent weeks to gauge the chances of buying him from West Ham in his last year of contract,” AS reports.
“Several more La Liga teams have asked about Fornals this summer, including Betis. But the Verdiblancos cannot undertake the signing because of the salary limit.
“Fornals, 27, wants to return to La Liga and sees Nervión and the possibility of playing in the Champions League as a magnificent place to continue his career…. As he has a few months left to be free, the footballer should leave for much less than that figure: between five and eight million (pounds).”
Presently Fornals is a crucial player for West Ham.
But if the Hammers do manage to pull off the signing of Mohammed Kudus then it starts to look increasingly difficult to see him starting.
Jesse Lingard could also be signed, adding more competition for the Hammers fan favourite.
West Ham fans would undoubtedly be sad to see Fornals go if the reports are accurate.
