New signing declares he will become Celtic’s best player

There were concerns that Celtic might move away from the transfer policy that brought them so much success under the management of Ange Postecoglou, following the Australian’s departure and the arrival of Brendan Rodgers as his replacement in the Parkhead hot seat. Till now, that has not been the case though.

This summer, Celtic have already signed Odin Thiago Holm from Valerenga and Marco Tilio from Melbourne City FC. On the other hand, it is believed that they have gotten deals over the line for Yang Hyun-jun of Gangwon FC and Kwon Hyeok-kyu of Busan IPark, even though no official announcement has been made yet.

Celtic were rumoured to have made an offer for Kwon in the winter transfer window as well, while Postecoglou was the manager of the club. A move failed to transpire back then, but it appears that the Hoops have gotten the job done this time around.

Kwon has been compared to Manchester City’s Rodri, even though he was playing in the South Korean second division. And it looks like he is full of confidence ahead of a move to Celtic.

Kwon appears to be intent on becoming Celtic’s best player and has his eyes set on a future move to the Premier League or the Bundesliga too. As reported by Naver Sports (via The Scottish Sun) he said:

“I received a lot of help from Busan I-Park since my youth days in middle school.

“I will work hard to become a player that the Busan club and juniors will be proud of.

“I will become the best player in Celtic and go to higher places such as the German Bundesliga or the English Premier League.”

Now, many fans will raise their eyebrows at the fact that Kwon already appears to have an eye on a move to England or Germany, even before putting on the Celtic shirt. It is what it is though and at least he is very open about his ambitions from the get go, so there will be no surprises if he does leave down the line.

Let’s see when Celtic end up announcing the signings of Kwon and Yang, It could be a double announcement.

This appointment marks the first time MacDermid will be overseeing a match involving the Hoops, adding an extra layer of interest to the fixture. It’ll be interesting to see how he gets on.

Joining him in the officiating team and taking charge of the VAR will be Andrew Dallas. Dallas, a more familiar face in the Scottish football scene, has had his fair share of high-profile matches and will be tasked with ensuring that any contentious decisions are thoroughly reviewed and adjudicated upon correctly.

Ross Macleod and Graham McNeillie will run the lines, with Chris Fordyce the Fourth Official.
