The Daily Mail have claimed that Nottingham Forest sensation Brennan Johnson prefers a move to Tottenham Hotspur over Chelsea this summer.

Johnson, who hit the limelight with his displays in the Championship during the 2021-22 campaign, out-performed expectations in his first taste of top-flight football, finishing last season with 10 goals and three assists across all competitions.

The versatile attacking midfielder, who can also operate in either flank, has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham recently, with Football.London’s Alasdair Gold (21 August) backing the North London club to make a move for the youngster before the transfer window closes.

Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the Wales international but Fabrizio Romano stated on Tuesday that although the Blues ‘appreciate’ the 22-year-old, they are currently not in active negotiations to sign him.

The Mail have now also backed up Chelsea’s interest in Johnson, revealing that the Stamford Bridge hierarchy have even considered a part-exchange offer for the midfielder amidst Forest’s interest in Andrey Santos.

However, it is explained that the Welshman has ‘strong interest’ from Tottenham and prefers moving to N17 as he fears he will not get much game time at Stamford Bridge.

The outlet adds that Forest want £50m for Johnson, who also remains a target for West Ham United.

Tottenham are seemingly planning on spending a big chunk of the Kane fee to sign Johnson before the window closes. However, Spurs are now in a race against time to get some players out of the door in order to free up squad spaces for new signings.

The club must conclude deals for the likes of Reguilon, Tanganga, Sanchez, Lloris, Spence and Ndombele over the next few days in order to bring in the players that Postecoglou wants before the deadline.

Nottingham Forest look to be edging closer to the signing of Gonzalo Montiel after he was spotted in a photo sporting a shirt with his new squad number on.

An image by FOX Argentina has showcased Montiel with his new Garibaldi strip. He’s been snapped performing his media duties and he looks happy to be here.

Forest have done really well to get this deal over the line. Montiel is a World Cup winner and scored the winning penalty that secured the prize for Argentina last year.

The 26-year-old has a thing for scoring crucial penalties. He was also on hand to net the winning penalty as Sevilla won the Europa League during 2022/23 but now he appears to have signed Forest.

All that remains now is an official announcement. Rudy Galetti claimed earlier that the delay was down to the club preparing a special announcement video.

The Argentina international comes with a wealth of experience. He’s made 72 appearances for Sevilla and prior to signing for the La Liga outfit, he made 140 appearances for River Plate.

Now Montiel will be added to the Forest squad as a wing-back option. Serge Aurier and Neco Williams are already in place on Trentside and it will be fascinating to see what happens.

Forest really are back. In the space of two summers, they’ve gone from the bottom of the Championship to competing for the signature of a World Cup winner.

Montiel looks to be a done deal. Hopefully, there can be an announcement of sorts from the club today, with some fans getting itchy feet over the formalities being concluded.

Now, the player has been snapped with the shirt in front of the club media boards, it feels real. It’s also worth noting that the player will wear the number 29 shirt at Forest.

He won’t have much to live up to with that squad number. Nuno Da Costa was the last person to wear it, with Yohan Benalouane, Chris O’Grady and Jon Olav-Hjelde also wearing the shirt.

This looks like a very useful signing indeed for Forest. With Manchester United up next on Saturday, hopefully, Montiel can be in the squad for that trip.
