Burnley sign Aaron Ramsey from Aston Villa
Burnley have announced the signing of attacker Aaron Ramsey from Aston Villa on a five-year deal, with the youngster becoming the Clarets’ 11th arrival of the summer.
The 20-year-old departs the club he joined as a boy in order to switch to Turf Moor, where Vincent Kompany‘s Clarets will be looking to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.
Ramsey has enjoyed three loan periods away from Villa Park over the past two seasons, firstly heading to Cheltenham Town for the latter part of the 2021-22 term.
Temporary spells at Championship sides Norwich City and Michael Carrick‘s Middlesbrough in 2022-23 have allowed the winger to further develop his talents, with the player scoring eight goals and providing four assists in 29 second-tier appearances.
The attack-minded player also possesses international pedigree, forming part of the England Under-19 squad who won the European Championships last summer.
Having now signed for newly-promoted Burnley for an undisclosed fee, Ramsey will be aiming to cement himself as a Premier League regular in the coming seasons at Turf Moor.
“I am absolutely buzzing. I have been waiting to be a Burnley player for a while now and I am really happy it is all officially done now. I cannot wait to get started,” Ramsey told the club’s official website following his arrival.
“I cannot wipe my smile off my face. When you come to a new club you want the lads to welcome you in and everyone here has done that straight away. It has been really easy to settle, everyone has been amazing.”
Ramsey leaves Villa Park having featured on two occasions for the West Midlands giants since making his first-team debut in August 2021, with a transfer away helping Unai Emery‘s to deal with their FFP restraints.
Burnley have mainly targeted attacking talent from the continent this summer, recruiting the likes of Zeki Amdouni and Luca Koleosho from Basel and Espanyol respectively.
Both of the aforementioned duo started the Clarets’ top-flight opener against Manchester City on August 11, when a brace from Erling Haaland and a late Rodri strike condemned Kompany’s men to a 3-0 defeat.
With Emery’s Villa visiting Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon, Ramsey could be set to make his Burnley debut against his former employers.

Birmingham steal a march in under-18 league
Having earned a point at Charlton in the opening game of the season, the under-18s weren’t able to follow that up with a win when we played our first home game last Saturday against Millwall last Saturday at Gawthorpe.
We went down to a 4-1 defeat in a game when there really wasn’t much between the two teams but we never recovered from conceding two goals in two minutes just before the half hour and it was all too late by the time our consolation goal was scored by Callum West (pictured) just four minutes from the end.
Forwards Ryan Tioffo and Rohan Vaughan were both missing, presumably injured, and coach Tony Philliskirk said after the final whistle: “It was a weird game. We’ve dominated the ball; we’ve dominated possession but come away on the losing side.”
He went on to add: “More than 90% is dictated by what happens in both boxes and the difference between the two teams was their two front players. They had a very good player in their number nine who caused us loads of problems and I’ll be brutally honest, if their number nine had been in our team, we would probably have won that game. We have got to be better in both boxes because that’s where football games are ultimately won or lost.”
Their number nine was Frankie Baker who scored their second goal with a really good finish to give our visitors a very good start in their first game.
The teams in our game were;
Burnley: Jon Ander Vilar Robinson, Logan Carlin, Luca Jackson (Zach Johnson 61), Jack Bates, Marley Leuluai (Joe Ashton 83), Jack Rogers, Lucas Wane, Sonny Pickup (Oliver Pimlott 61), Adam Abbas (Dylan Sime 61), Callum West, Adam McCoy. Sub not used: Felix Chester.
Millwall: Jakub Przewozny, Chris Ojemen, Adedapo Olugbodi, Alfie Massey, Elias Mansor, Josh Stephenson, George Beaumont, Frankie Maciocia, Frankie Baker, Kavalli Heywood, Jack Howland. Subs: Anton Robinson, Oliver Whitby, Sheldon Kendall, Harry Taylor, Jayden Tektas.
Looking at the results to date, Birmingham have won three and currently lead the way with nine points although, having played in midweek, they are the only team who have played as many as three games.
In the north, Coventry (from two games) and Fleetwood, Crewe and Sheffield Wednesday (one game each) also have maximum points as do Bournemouth (two games) and Millwall (one game) in the south. Six teams, three in each group, are still looking for their first win.
We will travel to Bristol City this Saturday. They have four points from their opening two games having followed up a 4-0 home win against Barnsley with a 0-0 draw at Sheffield United.
The north v south continues this Saturday with the south group clubs at home. Barnsley are the team without a game this week.
