DONE DEAL: Another Leicester City player has left the club.

Stags sign Leicester defender on loan

Mansfield Town are delighted to announce the signing of Lewis Brunt on a season-long loan deal from Leicester City.

The 22-year-old centre-back came through the ranks at Aston Villa before joining the Foxes in the summer of 2021.

The youngster was recognised for his standout displays during the 2021/22 season, winning the Development Squad Player of the Season at the Club’s end of season awards.

Lewis has previous loan experience at Gloucester City and has also played four times professionally for Leicester’s first team – twice in the Premier League and twice in the Emirates FA Cup.

Manager Nigel Clough said: “We’ve seen Lewis play a few times last season for Leicester’s under-23s and he acquitted himself well. He’s the best player we could get at this stage and we needed someone in defensively to cover the injuries we’ve had in the last few weeks.

“We’ve been working on it for a week or so and the transfer has been a little tricky but our CEO, Mrs. Radford, has worked very hard to get it over the line and we’re grateful for that.”

The Turkish international winger is on course to become the club’s seventh signing of the summer and will strengthen Enzo Maresca’s options on the right-hand flank

Yunus Akgun is flying in for a “new challenge” at Leicester City with the Turkish international winger reportedly set to join the club on loan.

City’s transfer priority has been to bring in a signing for their right flank and they have found their man in the 23-year-old Galatasaray star. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that a loan deal has been agreed, with the move to become permanent at €10m (£8.6m) if Akgun plays 25 matches this season.

On Friday morning, Akgun posted a picture of him and agent Ergezen Menajerlik on a plane, with the caption: “New challenge loading”.

It was only a few days ago that Akgun played for Galatasaray in their Champions League qualifying round first leg against Molde, the 23-year-old setting up a goal in a 3-2 win.

But afterwards their manager Okan Buruk said: “There are offers coming to our club for Yunus Akgun, our club will decide. Yunus is the son of this club. He is a player who grew up here and has done important things.”

Galatasaray have strengthened considerably out wide this summer, bringing in Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea, Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace, and former City winger Tete on a free transfer.

Akgun registered one goal and four assists in 28 games for Galatasaray last term, but was superb the year before on loan at Adana Demirspor, getting nine goals and 17 assists in 39 outings.

He would become City’s seventh arrival of the window, with the club hoping to bring in one more winger and a defender before next week’s deadline.
