The Rams have completed the signing of Fornah on a two-year contract, becoming the club’s ninth signing of the summer transfer window.

The midfielder joined Nottingham Forest’s academy in 2018 and went onto make his senior debut in an FA Cup clash with Chelsea in 2020.

Fornah failed to make his mark on the first team after they were promoted to the Premier League and instead enjoyed loan spells with Casa Pia, Plymouth Argyle, Shrewsbury Town and Reading.

The youngster made 35 appearances in the Championship last season, scoring twice and providing two assists for Reading.

The Royals boss, Paul Ince, was impressed by his potential, claiming he could be a ‘top player’ and had been ‘outstanding’.

With only a year left on his contract at the City Ground, Forest were prepared to let him leave in search of regular first team football.

Fornah has taken the short journey across the Midlands to join fierce rivals Derby for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old joins Joe Ward, Josh Vickers, Callum Elder, Curtis Nelson, Sonny Bradley, Conor Washington, Kane Wilson and Martyn Waghorn as the Rams’ new signings this summer.

Speaking after his arrival, Fornah said: “I’m just over the moon that finally I’m a Derby player and I just can’t wait to get started. This is an amazing opportunity.

“It’s just about enjoying my football and being somewhere where I’m appreciated, that’s the main thing for me.”

Fornah could make his debut as Derby County take on Peterborough United in League One tomorrow afternoon.
