Brentford have launched a £40 million bid in an attempt to lure Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson to the club despite heavy interest from Tottenham Hotspur, according to The Telegraph. £40 Million Bid on the Table from The Bees for Spurs Target

The Bees’ club-record bid follows two earlier proposals this summer for £30 million and £35 million, both of which were rejected by Forest. The club are in need of a striker with Toney unavailable, especially as it is expected their star striker could be a key target of Arsenal or Spurs once he is cleared to return to football.

Johnson scored eight goals as well as providing three assists last season and was vital to Steve Cooper’s sides’ survival from relegation. The interest from the West London club and their neighbours in Tottenham is an endorsement of his ability and demonstrates a clear expectation that these numbers could improve if he is surrounded by a stronger team.

The youngster represents Wales at an international level and has had compliments heaped on him by head coach Robert Page, who has hailed him as a “wonderful” player and praised both his ability and his character, noting his willingness to earn playing time in lower league sides before his successes with Forest in the Premier League.

Spurs are not expected to give up on their pursuit of the 22-year-old, as Ange Postecoglou appreciates the versatility of the forward, who has played on both wings and as a central striker. Fabrizio Romano has reported that he is still a “top option” for the club who are keen on completing a deal with Forest this summer.

According to The Telegraph’s report, Daniel Levy is currently in negotiations for Brennan Johnson and his side are considered the favourites to complete the deal, but reports of a significant bid from Brentford could see Spurs miss out. Frank’s side have had a solid start to the season after fighting for a 2-2 draw against Tottenham on opening day, followed by a 3-0 win over Fulham and a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.
