‘Special’ 19-year-old talent linked with Newcastle now ‘keen’ on Premier League move – reporter

Watford striker Yaser Asprilla already eyeing Premier League transfer only a year after joining Hornets | The Sun

The Sun’s Alan Nixon has now said that young Watford player Yaser Asprilla is keen on a move to the Premier League amid interest from Newcastle United.

Watford have unearthed a gem in 19-year-old Colombian Yaser Asprilla who already has three senior international caps to his name and now Newcastle and Brighton are said to be monitoring his situation.

Asprilla is an attacking midfielder who can play on either flank too so he is young, versatile and clearly talented but still has plenty to learn. That’s all of Eddie Howe and Dan Ashworth‘s boxes ticked.

Alan Nixon has said on his Patreon that Asprilla is ‘keen’ on a Premier League move with Newcastle linked to the youngster earlier this summer.

Former Watford boss Slaven Bilic was full of praise for Asprilla when he burst onto the scene telling the Watford Observer: “He is a young boy of rare talent. His touch, we see that in training on a regular basis. He’s going to be special.

“He has things that you can’t teach. But he’s 18 and he’s a kid that has moved not just to a different country but to a different continent. He doesn’t speak a word of English, so it’s not easy for him. But the club and everyone in it is helping him.

Bilic said ‘the sky is the limit’ for Asprilla

“He is a very explosive player. I’m not going to say the sky’s the limit, but then I’ve just said it! It’s up to him and he will get our help.”

Bilic has since departed Watford but Asprilla has continued to impress and now the question is whether or not he’s ready to step up to the Premier League.

This one writes itself for me. If we sign Asprilla next summer just as the Adidas kit deal kicks in, imagine the shirt sales. If Adidas nail it with a call-back kit to the one that is widely regarded as our best of all time and we get an excuse to have Asprilla printed on the back, that’s just a license for the club to print money.
