Hull City boss Liam Rosenior on what he is not looking forward to in the final week of summer transfer window
Namely moving on some of his Hull City squad players, with the club seeking to provide more space to accommodate new signings, while being conscious of Financial Fair Play criteria. The Tigers are striving to bring in a new goalkeeper, midfielder and striker before the deadline, while a £5m deal to sign Aston Villa’s Jaden Philogene is waiting to be signed off. His club-mate Keinan Davis remains a target.
Rosenior said: “I am happy with those if we get them across the line and in those positions, they are complete fits in terms of our style of play and I think we will surprise people with the quality of those players
“I have said all along that I don’t want too big a squad. I want players to feel that if they are in the squad, they are a suspension or one injury away from getting a place in the team.
“We have got a lot of structuring to do. But I think the names being mentioned are showing the ambitions of the club.
“I would not have come back here if I thought I could not be successful either.
Letting go some members of his squad who don’t necessarily want to leave to accommodate signings remains a necessary ‘evil’.
The Tigers chief added: “There is not a player in this squad who wants to leave and that says everything about what Acun (Ilicali) has created and the culture we have created as coaches – that a lot of the players believe they can be successful here.
“It’s the hardest conversation and the way I work is that I will never hide, but tell the truth to their face. It’s diffciult as I have a group of really motivated players.”

‘I’m shattered’ – Liam Rosenior looking forward to transfer window closing
The Tigers boss is primed for an exhausting final few days of a hectic window
Liam Rosenior admits he can’t wait for the transfer window to close on Friday night, finally bringing an end to a manic summer spell of calls, meetings and signings.
City have so far signed five players since the window opened earlier in the summer, but if Rosenior and owner Acun Ilicali get their wish, that number will double before 11pm on Friday evening.
Rosenior has been keen to wait to secure some of his top targets, and that desire to be patient has seen him secure the loan arrival of Scott Twine amid interest from half of the Championship.
He’ll need all his reserves of patience in the closing days with the club working around the clock to complete deals for Jaden Philogene and Keinan Davis, as well as a goalkeeper, midfielder and winger.

City are closing in on the signing of Cardiff City goalkeeper Ryan Allsop and there’s a suggestion Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton could be a target.
“I can’t wait for it to be all done, I’m shattered,” Rosenior told Hull Live. “My phone is in my pocket and it’s ringing right now. That’s the way the transfer window has been for me.
“You want to be relieved, you want to be happy, but you want to have the squad or as close as possible to the squad you planned to have at the end of the window.”
Historically, the feeling in football has been to judge teams after 10 games of the season when things have started to settle down, but given a month of action takes place before the window shuts, that figure may well have risen to 15 games.
Rosenior says even then you can’t always give an accurate assessment of how things will play out, given both Middlesbrough and Coventry City were struggling when he arrived at the MKM Stadium in November, before going on to make the end-of-season play offs.
“I think I came in on 18 games last season, still so much changed. I remember Middlesbrough and Coventry were near the bottom of the table, both of those teams make the playoffs,” he added.
“It’s an absolute marathon this league and there’s absolutely no danger of me getting carried away.”
