Norwich City To Launch Bid For Championship Playmaker
Norwich City are set to submit a bid in a battle to sign Coventry City playmaker Kasey Palmer this week, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Sky Blues midfielder has featured in all but one of the club’s matches this season, proving to be an important player in Mark Robins’ side, but could Norwich tempt the Jamaican midfielder to leave the CBS Arena?
Who is Kasey Palmer?
The 26-year-old is a product of the Chelsea youth setup, working with current Sky Blues assistant manager Adi Viveash in rising through the ranks. He has also had loan spells with Huddersfield Town, Derby County and Bristol City, before signing for the latter on a permanent deal.
However, he struggled at Ashton Gate and eventually joined Coventry on a free transfer last summer. He made 32 appearances in all competitions last season, contributing to seven goals as the Sky Blues missed out on promotion.
A transfer reunion?
Current Norwich City boss David Wagner has previously worked with Kasey Palmer at Huddersfield Town, which suggests there shouldn’t be a surprise that he is eager to reunite with Palmer now he’s found his feet again in the Championship.
Leaving the Sky Blues short
Due to injuries to Callum O’Hare and Jamie Allen, as well as the departure of Gustavo Hamer, Mark Robins’ side would be short of attacking options if Palmer were to depart the football club.
Allen hasn’t featured since last season due to a heart issue, whilst O’Hare is still recovering from an ACL injury and isn’t expected back until October.
Writer’s View
As a Sky Blues fan, I would be extremely surprised to see Coventry sell Palmer no matter what the Norwich bid was. Palmer has arguably been one of the club’s star players this season and is still under contract until June 2025.
However, with David Wagner having worked with Palmer before, he will be keen to test the Sky Blues board with an offer before the window closes on Friday.
