Barnsley Facing Competition For Championship Striker
Barnsley are nearly a deal to sign Rotherham United striker Joshua Kayode, however, will face competition from Fleetwood Town and Carlisle United, according to journalist Darren Witcoop.
The 23-year-old has appeared off the bench for all four of the Millers’ Championship games this season, while also featuring in their EFL Cup game against Morecambe, where the forward scored the equaliser.
Having a successful season in League Two for Carlisle in the 2020/21 campaign, the Nigerian will be looking to take his game to the next level with interest from League One.
Who Is Joshua Kayode?
Joining Rotherham’s youth team at an early age, the forward has progressed through the club to where he has made 37 appearances for the first team. Tallying up three goals and five assists in that time, Kayode has also spent years out on loan at four different levels with Chesterfield, Gateshead, Carlisle and MK Dons.
League One Ready?
With experience in the third tier of English football for MK and Rotherham, most of Kayode’s impressive seasons have come during his loans in League Two and National League North. Showcasing the ability to help with goals and assists, the Rotherham product can play up top as a number nine or on either wing.
More Depth For Barnsley
While a transfer is not yet finalised and multiple clubs are keen on the player’s services, it does seem like a move to the Tykes is on the horizon. Currently sitting 13th in the league, Barnsley’s season has already seen many ups and downs, with a 7-0 victory on the opening day being followed up with back-to-back 3-1 home defeats.
Writer’s View
With Barnsley continuing to add to their attacking options, Kayode does seem like an interesting prospect of which we haven’t seen the best of yet. With the ability to play across the front three, Kayode can be a versatile piece that will hopefully develop throughout the season and help the League One club go one step further this year.
