LOWAN PYE MOVES FROM MAN UNITED TO BURNLEY

Manchester United have confirmed that Logan Pye has left the club to join Burnley.

Manchester United have confirmed that defender Pye has agreed to join Burnley on a one-year contract, with the club confirming the news in a statement. Pye, 19, joined United from Sunderland in 2020, and will work under manager Vincent Kompany at Turf Moor. Pye was part of United’s 2022 FA Youth Cup winning side, and will now look to break into the squad after Burnley’s promotion to the top flight. Joe Hugill also moved to Old Trafford in 2020, but Hugill is expected to stay at the club for the foreseeable future. It has been reported that Pye had been at Burnley on trial all week, and it is understood that he impressed manager Kompany enough to be offered a deal. A second Burnley Premier League game for England

Burnley’s home game against Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon will be refereed by Darren England. It will be the Doncaster based official’s fifth Burnley game and the second in the Premier League.

His first two Burnley games were home cup defeats. He was in charge of the home game against Sunderland in the 2019/20 League Cup and in the following season he refereed our FA Cup defeat at the hands of Bournemouth.

Just a few weeks later he was referee when we beat Wolves 4-0 at Molineux and since has refereed us just the once in the final Turf Moor game of 2022, a 3-0 victory against Birmingham.

 

England has been a Select Group official since the summer of 2020 but he’d already refereed a game in the league in January of the previous season when he was allocated the game between Southampton and Wolves at St. Mary’s.

Last season, he refereed a total of eighteen Premier League games. He also refereed six in the Championship and five domestic cup games including the FA Trophy Final between Halifax and Gateshead.

This will be his first Premier League game of the season. His only domestic game was the Championship fixture between Southampton and Norwich when, incredibly, there were more yellow cards than goals and the game ended 4-4. Visitors Norwich had Kenny McLean, Tony Springett, Jack Stacy and Marcelino Núñez carded but Southampton went a few better with all of Will Smallbone, Samuel Edozie, Nathan Tella, Jack Stephens, Ché Adams, Shea Charles and Jan Bednarek receiving yellow cards.

Fourth official is James Bell whose one Burnley game was last season’s 5-1 win at Wigan. John Brooks is on VAR and he last refereed us in last season’s FA Cup defeat at Manchester City
