Nottingham Forest have declined to sign Dean Henderson on a one-year contract, with doubts surrounding his fitness. The keeper spent last season on loan at City Ground, making just 20 appearances. The Athletic reports that Forest had Henderson on their radar at the beginning of the summer, but had reservations about his thigh injury. He has been out of action since January, when he ruptured his thigh in a goal-kick v Leicester and required surgery to correct the damage. Forest were unsure of the extent of the injury. They did their research and were not confident that the player would pass a stringent medical.

Crystal Palace have completed the permanent signing of Jordan Henderson from Manchester United for a fee of £15 million plus add-ons. The signing of Henderson comes at a bad time for the club, with Sam Johnstone having a strong start to the season, but there is no guarantee that he will be the number one throughout the 2023/24 season. The 24-year-old has been highly rated in the past, with Sander Berge once describing him as ‘nuts’ during their time together at Sheffield United. The report goes on to explain why Forest chose not to sign Henderson, and it’s fair to say they made the right decision at the time. Losing Henderson to injury again would have been a huge blow to the club, and they now have two very capable goalkeepers..

At 26-years-old, the one-time England player would have been a decent investment for the future. Now, however, Forest can look forward to life with Turner and Vlachodimos keeping goal.

Henderson bought into the ethos of what playing for Forest is all about. He kicked every ball from the stands when he was injured and he clearly would have welcomed a return to the City Ground.

Forest had to make a judgment call. They needed goalkeepers to come in and start instantly making claims for a place and as a result, they perhaps made the best decision for business with regard to Henderson.
