Premier League side lure Eden Hazard back but retirement would not be ‘surprise’ after rejection
Crystal Palace were “legit” interested in bringing Eden Hazard to the club in the summer but his retirement will not come as a surprise to “an insider” after he turned down the offer. Hazard’s career took a huge turn for the worse after he joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in 2019 for a fee of £100million. The Belgian had a fantastic time at Chelsea, developing into one of the most talented and talented players in the world. He scored 202 goals in a total of 352 games for the Blues, winning them twice in the Premier League. However, he failed to replicate that success with Real, scoring just three times in four seasons. Hazard has now left the club a free agent and has yet to sign a new contract, with speculation surrounding his retirement.
He did, however, have the opportunity to move on, with Crystal Palace being reported to be interested in bringing him back to the premier league. According to insider Dean Jones, there have been strong offers for Hazard, including one from Crystal
Palace, but he does not seem motivated to make a comeback. Jones believes it would be difficult for Hazard to return to the first team, given that he barely featured in his final season at Real and has not been with a club since. “He’s a free agent, so the clubs have not closed the doors on him,” Jones said. “He’s very self-assured, is not influenced by outside noise or behaviour, and will make his decision on his own terms.” Hazard has been out of the game for over a year, so he would need to work hard to get back into top condition, which could take a while.
Jones believes Hazard’s reluctance to leave Chelsea at the moment is a sign that he is getting closer to retirement. “I wouldn’t be surprised if Hazard retired at the end of the season,” Jones said. “The last couple of years haven’t gone to plan for him, but if he’s ready to call it quits, he’s had a great run before things went wrong.”
