Lloyd Kelly is a graduate of the Bristol City youth division, spending nearly a decade at the club. But the English defender rose to prominence shortly after joining Bournemouth in July 2019. And he was one of the pivotal figures in earning the Cherries a spot in the Premier League last year.

But Kelly’s stock has fallen since the start of the 2022/23 season, as he has been in and out of the starting lineup at the Vitality Stadium. And the 24-year-old has started only one of the four Premier League games thus far this term. But the player’s stock remains high, with Liverpool and Tottenham keen on signing him.

The former Bristol City defender has entered the final year of his contract, further making him an attractive target. He was already a target for Tottenham in the final days of the summer transfer window. And the North London giants remain keen on signing him in January.

Tottenham will likely part ways with Eric Dier and Japhet Tanganga in the January transfer window. And with Davinson Sanchez already out of the exit door at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, they can do with a new centre-back. Kelly is thus a viable winter target for the North London club.

Meanwhile, Liverpool recently joined the race to secure Kelly’s services in the January transfer window. Jurgen Klopp has four centre-backs in his squad. But Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk are on the wrong side of 30, with the former struggling with fitness issues in the past year. So, the 24-year-old Bournemouth defender is an option worth considering.

Liverpool and Tottenham now have hope in the race to sign Kelly, as Bournemouth might have to agree to a cut-price fee in January. And it will be interesting to see if the two clubs launch the offensive to land the 24-year-old this winter.
