Positive update on Roy Hodgson after missing Crystal Palace defeat at Aston Villa
Paddy McCarthy, coach of Crystal Palace’s first-team, has declared Roy Hodgson’s health to be in good condition following his absence from Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Aston Villa. Hodgson, 76, had taken ill on the morning of the match and was unable to
travel, although he appeared to be in good spirits as his side took a 1-0 lead in the second half. In the second half, Villa levelled at 1-1 with Douglas Luiz’s penalty and Leon Bailey’s late goal. McCarthy and Lewington took charge of the game, and McCarthy expressed his optimism that Hodgson’s condition would improve in the near future.
Prior to the match, there was a significant amount of communication between the two parties. It is expected that the two parties will have a conversation after the match. It is noteworthy that there was a gap of more than four minutes between the referee’s decision to award a penalty to Chris Richards for a foul on Andy Carroll and when he was invited to review the decision by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). England concluded that the foul had occurred prior to the Palace defender’s possession of the ball. However, McCarthy argues that such a delay indicates that the foul was not intentional.
Aston Villa achieved a post-war milestone of nine consecutive home league victories with a late comeback, which was commended for their industrious performance. Manager Unai Emery stated that the team’s victory was due to their willingness to put their hearts into the game. He further stated that the match had been very different from the first half, and that the team’s goal was to score goals because they deserved to.
In the second half, we did not play to our full potential, however, we were able to use our passion and heart to create opportunities. We were fortunate to be given the additional minutes by the referee, and we were able to take advantage of them by playing a different style of football. I was pleased with the performance. It is challenging after we have conceded a goal, as
they had a few opportunities to score. However, in my experience, we must choose to play with more heart and emotion than usual, and this was the case today.
