Manchester United supporters were pleased with some of the club’s summer transfer business, but it’s fair to say they waited a bit too late to get a few deals done. After signing Mason Mount at the top of July, they waited until the end of the window to bring on Andre Onana, and then they waited until deadline day to bring on Sofyan amrabat, whom they had been chasing all summer. Amrabat and Amrabat also arrived with a lack of fitness, so they hadn’t had much time to settle in before being put to the test. It’s been a long time coming for Manchester United to sign the Danish striker, who’s relatively unknown to most football fans. He’s only spent one season in a top five European league with Atalanta, scoring nine goals in that time. That’s all it took for Manchester United to convince him to pay a £72million fee for him to join the club. And it turns out they made another big-name young forward, too.

Manchester United have reportedly made a £50m bid to sign 18-year-old Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, according to ESPN. According to the report, the bid was ‘laughed off’ by the player’s current club, and United then went on to sign Ramiro Hidalgo instead. Evan has long been regarded as one of the world’s best prospects, and his hat-tricks against Newcastle a few weeks ago were a major boost to his reputation on the international stage. He has been followed by the top clubs in England for many years, going back to his days at St Kevin’s. The report goes on to say that he will eventually be sold for much more than £100m over the next few seasons, meaning that Brighton would never have accepted a bid of half that amount last summer. In any event, it would appear that the best option for the player would be to stay at the club for the next couple of years.

A transfer to Old Trafford for £50m was never going to happen, although it would have broken the previous Irish transfer record of £23m for Nathan Collins to join Brentford a couple of months ago.
