Celtic have signed Reo Hatate to a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2028.

Since his arrival in January 2022, the 25-year-old Japanese midfielder has won four trophies.

“I love playing for Celtic in front of the best fans around and I hope we can have more and more success together,” Hatate stated.

Brendan Rodgers, Celtic’s manager, called the new contract “great news” for both the player and the club.

“I’ve had some great discussions with him in recent weeks,” Rodgers added. I know how much he cares about the club and our fans, and how determined he is to deliver us more success.

“He is a huge talent, an exciting young player with great attributes and someone who can change a game.”

Hatate was linked with a transfer away from Glasgow throughout the summer, but he has now agreed to an extension with Celtic, following compatriots Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda.

“We have a lot of challenges ahead of us this season and beyond, both in Scotland and in the Champions League, and we are all ready as a team to tackle these together,” Hatate said.

“We will do everything in our power to give our fans more good times.”

Celtic have confirmed the signing of midfielder Reo Hatate to a new five-year contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2028.
Since signing from J-League outfit Kawasaki Frontale in January 2022, the 25-year-old Japan international has been a fan favorite at Parkhead, and he is seen as a crucial component in Brendan Rodgers’ first-team squad.

Hatate scored nine goals and assisted 11 times in 45 games for Celtic in all competitions during the club’s illustrious history.

The box-to-box midfielder has been linked with a summer exit from Celtic, with Tottenham Hotspur, now managed by former Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Lazio all reportedly interested.

Hatate, on the other hand, has put an end to uncertainty about his future by signing a new five-year contract with Celtic.

Hatate said of his new contract on Celtic’s official website: “I am delighted to agree this new contract with Celtic and commit my future to the club.”

“I enjoy playing for Celtic in front of the best fans in the world, and I hope we can continue to have success together.”
