Kyle Edwards, an Ipswich Town loanee, damaged his hamstring in training and will be out for a “little while,” according to Oxford United manager Liam Manning.

The expectation is that his loan spell with the League One team would allow him to progress away from Ipswich Town. Edwards had some promising moments in East Anglia, but with promotion to the Championship, it appeared that he wouldn’t see much action for Kieran McKenna’s side.

He made his debut from the bench against Port Vale. After that performance, Edwards had two goals and an assist in three games across all competitions

However, the 25-year-old Dudley native was absent from Saturday’s 3-1 win over Stevenage, raising some eyebrows among supporters. Now, speaking after the game, Manning has stated that the Ipswich Town loanee will be out for a while.

According to the Witney Gazette, Manning noted that while Oxford is still awaiting scan findings, Edwards is likely to be out for a ‘short while’. He called the injury a “huge shame,” saying:

“We’re still waiting for results, which will take some time to come.”

“He felt it at the end of training on Thursday, which is a real shame because he came in and hit the ground running, and he’s someone we really like.”

“We’re waiting on the results and we’ll see where we’re at to know exactly what’s going on.”

Edwards has had injury issues throughout his career, so fingers crossed. His attempts to break into the Ipswich Town lineup were hampered by spells on the sidelines, and after a promising start to his Oxford United career, it appears he may miss some time now as well.

The hope is that the test results will soothe Manning’s first concerns. However, only time will tell how long the winger will be on the bench.
