Lazio suffers a setback ahead of their trip to Celtic Park…

Lazio suffered another Serie A setback before their trip to Celtic Park this week, losing 2-0 to AC Milan on Saturday evening.

With a midweek victory against Torino, Maurizio Sarri’s side appeared to have turned a corner, but tonight’s meeting always looked like a difficult challenge, and Milan lived up to their billing as match favourites.

Christian Pulisic and Noah Okafor scored in the second half to secure the win and send them to the top of the Italian league, though Inter could reclaim the advantage before the end of the night.

Lazio have only earned seven points from their first 21 available this season, placing them in 14th place. They might fall as low as 16th before the weekend’s finish.

Lazio certainly do not want to be in second position after finishing second last season. After drawing with Atletico Madrid on matchday one, they’ll be looking for a break in the UEFA Champions League.

Despite their home difficulties, they will arrive in Glasgow sure of a win. It’s not going to be easy for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

However, with a sold-out Celtic Park and confidence high after today’s dramatic triumph in Motherwell, the Bhoys might spring a European surprise.

Celtic have a strong recent history against Lazio, having defeated them both at home and away during the 2019/20 UEFA Europa League group stage. That would be extremely good to do again.

Wednesday night is shaping up to be a thrilling event.
