The former Ipswich Town defender has completed a new move.
Brooklyn Kabongolo, who left Ipswich Town at the end of last season, has joined Southend United, according to the club’s official website.
Following their promotion from League One, Ipswich Town decided to part ways with the defender. His contract expired in late June, and he became a free agent as a result.
Kabongolo, 20, later signed with Billericay Town. However, he has since been granted permission to quit the Isthmian League Premier Division club and join Roots Hall.
According to Southend’s website, he has joined the Shrimpers on ‘non-contract conditions’. They now play in the National League and are 23rd in the table following a difficult start to the season.
A former Ipswich resident has found a new home.
In the summer, Ipswich stated on their retained list that Kabongolo would be leaving. He departed the club with Fraser Alexander, Harley Curtis, Matt Healy, and Max Hudson, among others.
Kabongolo progressed through the Portman Road academy ranks and was a fixture for the East Anglian outfit at various youth levels. He never made a senior debut, however.
The Frenchman will now attempt to cement his place in Southend’s first-team. This weekend, they were held to a 2-2 draw at Rochdale.
Kabongolo leaves behind an Ipswich side that has settled into life in the Championship under popular manager Kieran McKenna. They are at the top of the table.
The Tractor Boys have been in excellent form this season, carrying on their momentum after their promotion from the third division. The next game is at home against Hull City, who haven’t lost since the season began.
