Perfect Answer: Brendan Rodgers Reveals The Best Celtic Game He’s Managed….
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is currently in the midst of his second spell with the club. The Irish gaffer was greatly successful in Glasgow the first time around, winning back-to-back trebles.
Rodgers was at the centre of a number of iconic moments when he was previously in charge of the Bhoys, and he has recently revealed the best game he’s managed his boyhood team in.
As many would expect, it was indeed the 2017 Scottish Cup final. He said (Celtic FC on YouTube): “I can’t ever probably go past the cup final for the first treble in that season (2016/17). Just the occasion, being unbeaten throughout the whole season and then going into that, what would have been the first treble for a number of years and when we won it it was special.”
The fact the match was won in the dying embers made the victory taste even sweeter for Hoops fans. Ask any of them what they believe to be the foremost match Rodgers has managed and they would in all likelihood agree with the 50-year-old.
In his second spell in charge, it will be hoped he can help conjure up many more moments in the ilk of Tom Rogic’s iconic winner. One wouldn’t put it past Rodgers and in football, anything can happen.
Postecoglou Vs Rodgers Observation – Celtic Coach Harry Kewell
Harry Kewell, once a striking force for Liverpool and Leeds, has shared his journey transitioning from player to coaching under the wings of former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou and now Brendan Rodgers. His narrative reveals a tale of two distinct managerial philosophies.
Having been ushered into Celtic by Postecoglou, Kewell found himself retained in the backroom squad even after the former’s departure to Tottenham. The subsequent arrival of Rodgers for his second spell at the helm saw Kewell morph into a crucial cog in Rodgers’ coaching machinery. The Aussie relishes the rare fortune of working with two managerial maestros this early in his coaching odyssey.
However, when pressed to choose, Kewell’s heart leans towards Rodgers’ nuanced tactical fabric. The Celtic FC Podcast caught up with Kewell, who dived into his experience since his coaching inception in June 2022. He remarked, “You would probably expect to work with a manager for at least three to four years before there’s a change. I’ve been able to work with two great managers in the space of two years, two managers who are regarded highly in the sport, but have completely different ideas.”
He fondly reminisces his days with Postecoglou, lauding his crystal clear football visions. “I enjoyed working with Ange, his ideas of football were great. He knew exactly what he wanted and the way he presented it was clear-cut. It wasn’t even black and white, it was just straight black. There you go. That’s how clear he was.”
Yet, the allure of Rodgers’ adaptable approach beckons. Kewell continues, “Now, being able to work with Rodgers, it’s different. In a way I see myself more like a Brendan Rodgers type of manager. He looks at the game in a different way, he likes to adapt certain things and make tactical changes. It’s enjoyable seeing this side of it. It’s early, we’re still picking up his ideas, but they’re quite clear.”
This introspection offers a glimpse into the contrasting football philosophies that steer Celtic under different managerial reigns. Postecoglou’s straightforwardness versus Rodgers’ tactical shrewdness provide a rich learning tapestry for Kewell, who seems to find a reflection of his managerial aspirations in Rodgers’ dynamic game approach. As he navigates through this tactical spectrum, the budding coach is carving out his unique football narrative, all while contributing to the ongoing Celtic saga.
