Report: Raiders Add Experienced Player to The Squad….
The Las Vegas Raiders announced the signing of cornerback Cornell Armstrong on Tuesday. The team has been banged up at the cornerback position, particularly regarding cornerbacks Brandon Facyson, who has yet to play this season, Jakorian Bennett, who missed Week 5, and Nate Hobbs, who has been out the last two games. Armstrong is a five-year NFL veteran who has yet to play in a game this season.
He was most recently waived by the Atlanta Falcons due to injury in early September after being placed on the IR in late August. Armstrong made four starts in nine games for the Falcons last season. He finished the 2022 campaign with 33 combined tackles and seven passes defensed.
The 28-year-old cornerback had been with Atlanta since early December, 2021 after he was waived by the Houston Texans that September. Armstrong spent two seasons in Houston, where he appeared in a total of 15 games with no starts. Prior to his years with the Texans, the cornerback played his rookie season with the Miami Dolphins, who selected him in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Southern Mississippi. He was waived as part of end-of-training-camp roster cuts the following year.
The Raiders also announced Tuesday they released cornerback Rezjohn Wright and wide receiver Marquez Callaway.
Wright was signed to the practice squad on Thursday after being waived by the Carolina Panthers back in August. Carolina signed him as an undrafted free agent back in April.
Callaway, meanwhile, was signed to the Raiders’ practice squad on Aug. 31, two days after he was waived by the Denver Broncos, who signed him back in March. Callaway had previously played three seasons with the New Orleans Saints, with whom he made 17 starts in 42 games. He registered 1,069 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in his years with New Orleans. He was signed by the Saints as an undrafted free agent in April of 2020.
The Silver and Black will stay home at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas next week to play the New England Patriots on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 4:05 p.m. EDT/1:05 p.m. PDT.
Aaron Rodgers Calls Out Las Vegas Raiders for Davante Adams’ Lack of Targets Vs. Green Bay Packers
Aaron Rodgers may no longer be with the Green Bay Packers but there’s no denying that his former team still holds a special place in his heart. This is totally understandable considering how the four-time NFL MVP spent 18 years of his career with the Packers before he decided to take his talents to the New York Jets this summer.
Rodgers is still clearly invested in Green Bay’s campaign, and the fact that he came to Jordan Love’s defense after the young quarterback’s poor performance against the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday is a clear testament to this fact. As it turns out, the 39-year-old also has a couple of things to say about former Packers wide receiver Davante Adams.
Aaron Rodgers Comments on Davante Adams’ Game Vs. Green Bay Packers
There was a lot of attention on Adams ahead of Monday’s contest against his former team. Unfortunately, the three-time All-Pro wide receiver did not get as much attention on the field for the Raiders.
Rodgers took issue with this fact as he called out Las Vegas for not giving his former teammate enough opportunities to impact the game:
“Davante’s always open,” Rodgers said (h/t Cody Benjamin of CBS). “‘Covered’ to him is just different than other people. … You just gotta stick with him. Listen, I watched the game last night. I love Davante. He’s still a dear friend of mine. I thought he handled everything really, really well. Because that game meant a lot to him. You know, going back against your former team. Four targets? That ain’t it.
“… You gotta give him an extra look, because he’s able to do things on different timin. The facts are what Davante Adams does at the line of scrimmage, what Davante does down the field, is like no one else can do. You have to give him opportunities.”
After a memorable debut campaign with the Raiders last season, Adams now appears to be on the outside looking in. So much so, that he has already been linked to a potential trade away from Las Vegas. Rodgers just wants to remind the Raiders — and everyone out there, for that matter — that Davante Adams is still a hell of a player.
Aaron Rodgers Reacts to Davante Adams-Jimmy Garoppolo Partnership
Las Vegas decided to move on from Derek Carr this past summer, who happens to be a good friend and former college teammate of Adams. It’s Jimmy Garoppolo who’s taken over the reins for the Raiders this season, and there has been a lot of talk about Jimmy G targeting WR Jakobi Meyers more significantly than Adams.
Adams was quick to play down this supposed issue by pointing to a shoulder injury as the culprit behind his recent lack of success. Rodgers praised the former Packers wideout for how he has responded to the criticism:
“Davante handled it the right way,” Rodgers said. “He’s a pro. And Jimmy’s doing the best he can. … And they got the win, which is the most important thing. But if you wanna be dynamic …”
