Michigan Football: 3 overreactions from the Indiana win….
These are three of the most absurd overreactions from Michigan’s grilling of Indiana in its return to the Big House.
It’s getting harder and harder to obsess over any overreactions to a Michigan football win these days. They are practically doing everything right while making little to no mistakes. Even casual fans cannot nitpick about something that happened in Saturday’s win, but there is always someone or something to complain about no matter what happens.
Here are three of the overreactions.
1. These weekly blowouts are becoming boring
If a Michigan football diehard ever says this then they are either an Ohio State or Michigan State fanatic in disguise. This one is a defiant overreaction that holds no merit. The Wolverines are simply doing what ought to be done against inferior competition. If they were undefeated and winning close games then everyone would be freaking out.
I texted my friend during the Minnesota victory and we both agreed that this has been fun to watch. We all had to live through the Rich Rodriguez and Brady Hoke years and that was difficult, to say the least. Michigan football hasn’t experienced this type of overachieving success since the 90s. They had their moments in the Lloyd Carr era, but not like this.
If you want to watch a boring school, then watch Iowa. They win with no offense and a rugged defense. After Saturday’s victory in Madison, the Hawkeyes are the favorite to win the Big Ten West and could meet the winner of the East in the Big Ten championship game they will surely be overmatched in.
2. Jake Thaw should be the primary punt returner
Thaw has done a decent job so far in his role as a punt returner. Tyler Morris has also gotten time to return the punts too. Out of the two of them, it’s pretty clear that Morris is the better of the duo. He does make some nerve-racking decisions, but he has more potential moving forward. That makes this an overreaction.
Thaw had one return on Saturday for 10 yards, while Morris had an electrifying one for 27 yards. Morris split two defenders and found a crease. Morris is very similar in terms of build and movement to Ronnie Bell. He even wears the same number. He also seems to have a higher chance of breaking one than Thaw does on a weekly basis.
Thaw’s biggest return came in the UNLV meeting. It’s a feel-good story that the coaches believe in him to do what he does, but Morris possesses more elusiveness to gain more yardage. Semaj Morgan is another guy to monitor when it comes to this situation in the future, but Morris should be the main returner for the time being.
3. The crowd was justified in leaving early because of the score and the weather
When the calendar turns to October the weather usually doesn’t cooperate. That was the way it went with the rain on Saturday and the lopsided score didn’t help either. The student section was basically empty by the fourth quarter and not filled to capacity to begin with. Besides students have more important things to do, like study.
Going to a home game in Michigan Stadium is sacred and only happens about six or seven times a season. Enjoying the experience is momentarily, but worth it if you travel the country and visit these stadiums that are treated like religions in some parts. Saturdays in the fall at Michigan Stadium are as wholesome as it gets. That makes this an overreaction.
Imagine a kid going to the Big House for the first time and walking through the tunnel to his seat. That is a life-altering experience and makes you want to do it over and over again.
