Leeds United failed to sign Philadelphia Union’s Kai Wagner and he could now be on his way to Brighton and Hove Albion in 2024.

This is according to Sky Germany, who believe Wagner is attracting a lot of interest ahead of the January transfer season.

Wagner has long been regarded as one of the best left backs in Major League Soccer, with 31 assists in 168 games.

Wagner was nominated for MLS Defender of the Year in 2022 and will almost certainly leave the United States soon.

The German has long been linked with a return to Europe, and his opportunity may come during the January transfer window…

Sky Germany now claim that Wagner will not be extending his Philadelphia Union contract.

The 25-year-old’s current deal expires in December and it looks like he will now be leaving for nothing.

It’s claimed that Brighton and Hove Albion now fancy signing Wagner with Pervis Estupinan out of action.

The Ecuadorian left back is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines and Wagner could represent a low-cost replacement.

In August of last year, Brotherly Game revealed that Jesse Marsch had spoken with Union chief Jim Curtin about bringing Wagner to Elland Road.

The rumors persisted for quite some time, dating back to the summer of 2022, when The Mail+ claimed Wagner was merely awaiting a call to join Leeds.

It never arrived, and Wagner is still in the United States, with Leeds now likely out of the running with Marsch’s departure and relegation from the Premier League.

Leeds appear to have squandered their opportunity, and Wagner may now join a Premier League club whose recruitment is frequently commended.
