Steelers Leave Bengals Game With Two Injuries
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers left Cincinnati with a crucial victory over their division rivals, the Bengals, but a couple of their pass-catchers got banged up in the process.
Two Steelers wide receivers went down during the game against the Bengals, head coach Mike Tomlin said following the game. George Pickens “just got the wind knocked out of him”, according to Tomlin and Austin is dealing with an ankle injury.
Pickens went down after making a diving attempt at a deep ball to open the fourth quarter. He returned quickly, without visiting the medical tent, and finished the game with three catches on his five targets for 58 yards, including a massive, 43-yard reception on third down late in the second half prior to what would end up being the game-winning field goal from Chris Boswell.
He also caught a bounding onside kick attempt from the Bengals and made the heady play to stay on his feet and kill a few seconds before the two-minute warning, ensuring the Steelers could kill the last of the time on the clock without having to run any plays.
Austin caught just one pass for five yards before exiting the game with his injury. Tomlin added that he does not know the extent of his ailment.
Steelers RB Took a Not-So-Subtle Shot at Former OC Matt Canada After Win Over Bengals
The Steelers picked up a 16-10 win over the Joe Burrow-less Bengals on Sunday, improving to 7-4 on the year and 1-0 in the post Matt Canada era.
Speaking to reporters after the game, second-year running back Jaylen Warren weighed in on the differences in the offense following the departure of its offensive coordinator, who was replaced by Eddie Faulkner.
“More communication and more, I don’t know how to say this without being too explicit, but more willingness to take shots. Taking more risks,” said Warren, via 93.7 The Fan.
The 25-year-old toted the ball 13 times for 49 yards. He and Najee Harris led a rushing offense that racked up 153 yards, while Kenny Pickett threw for a season-high 278 passing yards.
Warren seemed to appreciate Faulkner’s willingness to take some risks on offense. While they had just one touchdown on offense, things were certainly trending in a positive direction.
Pittsburgh fired Canada on Tuesday following the Steelers’ loss to the Browns on Nov. 19. The team had just 10 points in the game, prompting the organization to part ways with its offensive coordinator. It was the first time since 1941 that the Steelers had made a coach or coordinator change in the middle of a season.
The offense will look to build off its win on Sunday and gets some more points on the board when Pittsburgh hosts the Cardinals in Week 13.
