FSU football: New Option at QB Emerges in the Transfer Portal as Potential ‘Savior’ for FSU

Will FSU football hit the transfer portal this off-season looking for QB help? Jordan Travis ended a great career at FSU with an unfortunate injury and will not return next season, and AJ Duffy has recently entered the transfer portal.

FSU football: Possible QB targets in the Transfer Portal

The Duffy move was not a big surprise due to him not moving past the No. 3 QB on the depth chart. Duffy was a 4-star quarterback coming out of IMG Academy, which featured more of a running attack while he was there. AJ also competed in the Elite 11 competition.

Departures

  • Jordan Travis (Graduation)
  • AJ Duffy (Transfer Portal)

Additions

  • Luke Kromenhoek (2024 Commit)

2024 Projected QB Depth Chart

  1. Tate Rodemaker (RS Senior in 2024)
  2. Brock Glenn (RS freshman in 2024)
  3. Luke Kromenhoek (FR)

Tate would be the most experienced, and he only has a handful of starts. It would make sense for FSU to look at a possible grad transfer QB from the portal as a possible transition QB for a year to allow the others to gain more experience.

What makes sense for FSU

There is a very deep list of quarterback targets in the portal this off-season, and I expect that to continue moving forward in the NIL era.

Like I stated before, I think it makes sense for FSU to get a grad transfer that can be a stopgap for 2024. I anticipate 5-star prospect Luke Kromenhoek and Brock Glenn to compete in 2025 for the starting role. I do like Tate as a backup and spot starter, and he could possibly move on if FSU does indeed get a portal addition at QB. I hope he stays because he is a dependable player and a team-first guy.

The best fits in the portal for FSU football would be DJ Uiagalelei, Cameron Ward, or Dillion Gabriel. Any of those guys makes FSU an instant Championship contender going into 2024. My sleeper pick would be Will Howard from Kansas State. Rumor is USC is hot on Howard, and Lincoln Riley will push hard for him.

I trust Coach Norvell and his ability to lead this team, so will he hit the portal or roll the dice with Tate and Glenn in 2024.

Jordan Travis Apologizes To FSU, Sends 5-Word Message To Alabama QB Jalen Milroe After CFP Snub

Jordan Travis suffered a season-ending injury in Florida State’s 11th game of the season. After getting his squad off to a perfect 10-0 start, the signal caller was forced to watch the rest of the year from the sidelines.

The quarterback’s broken leg wouldn’t cost the Seminoles any wins, but it ultimately removed the team’s final goal from the table.

Despite winning games over Florida and Louisville with reserve players under center, FSU was left out of the College Football Playoff. The ‘Noles landed on the wrong side of history, becoming the first Power Five conference champion to not have the opportunity of competing for a national title.

Instead, they landed an Orange Bowl invite which many believe they should decline.

Florida State was jumped by one-loss Texas and Alabama with the committee saying the Seminoles are a “different team” without Travis in the lineup.

The decision sparked immediate outrage amongst college football fans, with many asking, “Why play the regular season if the committee will pick who they want in the end?”

It’s a valid question, though many believe they know the motive behind the selection – TV ratings.

A handful of Florida lawmakers have even explored legal action against the College Football Playoff, though it’s not yet known what direction a potential suit would take.

As everyone around the sport continues to debate the committee’s decision, Jordan Travis has taken a moment to apologize.

Jordan Travis sends message to Jalen Milroe.

If that apology doesn’t show you what kind of person Travis is, his message to Crimson Tide QB Jalen Milroe should.

After learning of Alabama’s inclusion in the CFP, the passer posted photos to his Instagram account with a caption, “Your success is the best response to the doubts of those who underestimated you.”

Milroe certainly had his fair share of critics early in the season.

Travis, who could’ve been bitter, chose to rise above. Just as breaking his leg wasn’t something that Travis could control, Milroe had no influence on the CFP committee’s final decision.

“Go win it all, brodie,” he responded. That message is even more powerful considering it would essentially prove the committee right should Bama win the title.

The response shouldn’t surprise you, though. This is the same person who started a clothing design line on his personal NIL brand to both market and benefit backup-turned-starter Tate Rodemaker monetarily.

In the end, Travis and those other Seminole seniors are the ones most impacted by the omission. Instead of getting a chance to prove it on the field, as they’ve done in each of their previous 13 games, their fates have been decided by the opinions of folks in a room.

A sad day for college football, but hey, I’m sure a lot of eyes will be tuned into that Alabama-Michigan game.
