Breaking: Georgia Bulldogs Receive Offer For Wide Receiver

Mews was a good special teams returner for the Bulldogs in 2023

The transfer portal is heating up and for Georgia Tech, their latest offer is an interesting one.

Mekhi Mews is a transfer wide receiver from the University of Georgia and he announced on social media today that he has been offered by the Yellow Jackets. Mews was an electric player on special teams for the Bulldogs this season and did have a punt return for a touchdown. He also caught 13 passes for 155 yards and a touchdown. He was originally a walk at UGA.

Georgia Tech has a pretty loaded receiver room right now, but Mews would be an interesting addition, especially from the special teams aspect of things.

Jacksonville State, Syracuse, and East Carolina are his other offers.

Mews is not the only big offer that Georgia Tech has sent out recently.

Samuel Okunlola, a 6’4 245 LBS edge rusher who played one year at Pitt, entered the transfer portal this week and yesterday, he picked up an offer from Georgia Tech.

Some other prospects that Georgia Tech has offered out of the portal include Purdue grad transfer Sulaiman Kpaka and MTSU offensive line transfer Keylan Rutledge.

Kpaka totaled 10 tackles this season and 2.5 sacks for the Boilermakers. According to PFF, Kpaka played 163 snaps and he ended the year with a 56.7 grade, which is below average. He would add size on the defensive line at 6’2 295 LBS and he has plenty of experience so those are two ideal things that Kpaka would bring to Atlanta.

Rutledge, who played at Franklin County High School in Georgia, entered the transfer portal yesterday and just a few hours later, announced on social media that he had been offered by the Yellow Jackets.

Rutledge was a starter at guard for the Blue Raiders, was on the CUSA Preseason Watch List, and was a permanent team captain for MTSU. With starting right guard Connor Scaglione out of eligibility, Rutledge could come in and compete for the Yellow Jackets.

Pro Football Focus has 3 Georgia Bulldogs off the board in 2024 NFL mock draft

PFF expects a pair of Bulldogs to go in the first round and another come the second round.

Several Georgia Bulldogs have bright futures when it comes to the NFL, and the odds are high that many of them opt to enter the 2024 draft. The future is very bright for multiple Bulldogs when it comes to going off the board early, which was made clear by Pro Football Focus’ latest mock draft.

PFF’s third mock draft for 2024 has two Georgia players going in the first round and another with one of the early picks in the second. The outlet projected that tight end Brock Bowers will be the first Bulldog off the board when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select him with the 10th overall pick. Offensive tackle Amarius Mims will follow when the Green Bay Packers select him with the 20th pick.

PFF’s latest mock only contains a couple of second-round projections, but one features a standout Georgia receiver. The outlet predicted that wide receiver Ladd McConkey will go off the board when the Cleveland Browns take him with the 55th overall pick.

Bowers had an injury-affected 2023 season but still stood out to the tune of 56 receptions for 714 yards and 6 touchdowns, all of which led Georgia pass-catchers this fall. Mims missed six games due to an ankle injury — which required tightrope surgery just like Bowers’ injury — but returned for Georgia’s Week 10 game against Ole Miss. Mims remained in the lineup until injuring his ankle during the first half of the SEC championship game against Alabama.

McConkey also had his 2023 season affected by injury. The junior missed Georgia’s first four games due to a lingering back issue but made his debut against Auburn during a game in which he had 4 receptions for 38 yards. McConkey remained in the lineup until only playing six snaps against Tennessee in Week 12 then missing the Georgia Tech regular season finale due to an ankle injury.

McConkey was not 100% but played against the Crimson Tide, ending the loss with 3 receptions for 38 yards. With the bowl game still to go, McConkey has 29 receptions for 456 yards and 2 touchdowns.

While this trio of Bulldogs weren’t on the field for the entirety of the 2023 season, they did their part to help their team. Their contributions were crucial for a Georgia offense that averaged 38.4 points per game and helped the team go undefeated in the regular season and play in the SEC championship game for the third straight year.

Georgia has seen a number of former players go off the board early in recent years.

The Bulldogs had three players selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft after having five taken in the first round in 2022, including No. 1 overall pick Travon Walker. In total, Georgia has had 15 players go in the first round during the Kirby Smart era in Athens.
