Breaking: Ole Miss Football’s Lane Kiffin Set To Land Top Transfer Portal Target
Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels have been on a tear in the transfer portal since it officially opened earlier this month, and one expert in the industry has predicted that they are not finished just yet.
Pete Nakos of On3 logged a prediction on Sunday that the Rebels would land Texas A&M Aggies defensive lineman transfer Walter Nolen out of the portal. Nolen recently visited the Rebels, and he was rated as the No. 1 overall player in the 2022 cycle coming out of high school. In two seasons with the Aggies, Nolan recorded 66 tackles, five sacks, one forced fumble, and one pass breakup.
The stout defensive lineman bounced around at times during his high school career, suiting up for Olive Branch (Miss.) High School during his sophomore season before transferring to IMG Academy. Following his time at IMG, he relocated to St. Benedict at Auburndale High School in Cordova, Tenn., and his hometown is listed as Powell, Tenn.
Securing Nolen would be the biggest land for Kiffin and company in this transfer portal cycle, even with the array of talent that has already been brought to Oxford, especially on defense. The Rebels have recently landed names from SEC rivals like Princely Umanmielen (Florida), Chris “Pooh” Paul (Arkansas), Tyler Baron (Tennessee) and Tamarion McDonald (Tennessee).
Add these transfers in with the talent from the 2023 roster that will be returning next season, and Ole Miss could have a legitimate shot at vying for a spot in the soon-to-be-expanded College Football Playoff.
The Rebels will conclude their season in a New Year’s Six bowl game this month when they face the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in Atlanta. Kickoff at Mercedes-Benz Stadium is set for 11 a.m. CT on Dec. 30, and the game will be televised on ESPN.
Ole Miss football’s Lane Kiffin lands former South Carolina star Juice Wells in transfer portal
Lane Kiffin reels in Juice Wells through the transfer portal to beef up the wide receiver room.
It’s been a relatively quiet offseason for Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss football program. They’ve made several moves, but nothing has been head-turning. That is until now, as the Rebels reeled in one of the top wide receivers available in the transfer portal.
On Sunday, former South Carolina receiver, Juice Wells, announced that he is going to Ole Miss football through the transfer portal, per Pete Thamel and Mark Schlabach of ESPN. This is a massive acquisition for the Rebels.
“NEWS: South Carolina transfer WR Juice Wells tells ESPN’s Mark Schlabach that he’s transferring to Ole Miss.”
Lane Kiffin tends to get the best out of his offense. So, Ole Miss is a perfect landing spot for Juice Wells. He played more for the Gamecocks in his freshman year, but only played in three games for South Carolina in 2023. He ended his sophomore campaign with just three receptions, 37 yards, and one touchdown.
It’s safe to say, Wells was efficient with his limited opportunities in South Carolina. He should have a much bigger role playing for Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss football team. One factor that makes Wells such a great player is his ability after the catch. He’s dangerous with the ball in his hands and will now have a better opportunity to showoff those skills with the Rebels.
We’ll see how it pans out though. Nothing is guaranteed and Juice Wells will still need to prove himself on Ole Miss football’s roster. But if he plays well, then this offense should improve next season.
