Chicago Bears: Fans Losing Their Minds Over Latest 2024 QB Trade Rumors
The Chicago Bears have a major decision to make when April comes around.
Well they continue to ride with former Ohio State QB Justin Fields who has flashed at times but struggled mightily at others, or use their No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft to select USC dual-threat passer Caleb Williams, or one of the other top signal callers in this year’s class like Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels.
Fields has shown more and more glimpses he can be the player the Bears drafted in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but trade rumors remain more frequent than ever before.
But is his growing field maturity and efficiency making the case for him remaining in Chicago or is it merely bolstering his trade value on the open market?
The Chicago Bears Have Several Options
But the Bears have options and, one would assume, the team is tossing around ideas regarding Fields and his future.
One option would just have Fields staying put while the team continues to build around him. They could even possibly trade away the no. 1 pick for the second straight season to add more talent, dropping a bit lower in the draft to have access to more of what they need.
Another option, of course, is to select Williams no. 1 and, before that, trade Justin Fields for more draft capital.
That second option seems to be the more popular and widely held prediction for the team’s course of action.
Justin Fields has been linked to a bevy of teams like the ‘ and the Atlanta Falcons and the Raiders to name a few.
Justin Fields Linked To Multiple Teams
In a projected trade proposal, first published by FanNation Falcon Report, the Chicago Bears and The Atlanta Falcons would get together and make a swap for Justin Fields that would seem to be beneficial for all parties involved.
Per Falcon Report (and quoting Sportrac):
“The Falcons would send a second-round pick this year and a 2025 second-round pick with incentives that can turn into a first-rounder ‘based on production and playing time’ to the Bears for Fields.
Young QB of the future Desmond Ridder was benched multiple times in favor of Taylor Heinicke, who completed less than 60% of his passes with a rating somewhere in the 80’s. It’s a bleak outlook for an otherwise fairly talented roster, begging for an expensive quick fix this March,’ Spotrac writes.”
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Falcons, who will be in town to play against Fields and the Bears this coming Sunday in the penultimate game of the season, may be scouting the Chicago quarterback for a possible gig as the team’s starter.
In a recent NFL Mock Draft proposed by Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports, it’s the latter. Trapasso has the Bears trading Fields to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a couple of Day 2 picks.
In the said proposal, the Raiders land Fields and send the no. 74 overall pick in the 2024 draft, as well as a 2025 third-round pick that has the condition of becoming a second-round pick if Fields plays at least 75 percent of the snaps in 2024.
Of course, in the process, the Bears draft USC Trojans standout and former Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams to be their quarterback of the future.
There have been reports the Washington Commanders have strong interest in Williams — and would possibly be willing to trade up to give the Chicago Bears draft capital to build around Fields.
Regardless of what happens, speculation will continue until a move is made which may not happen until April’s NFL Draft.
Chicago Bears Fans & NFL Fans Across The League Are Losing Their Minds Over The Fields Dilemma
There are clearly two schools of thought when it comes to this situation. Many Bears fans want to stick with FIelds and use their No. 1 pick to build around him instead of risking their future on another unknown rookie QB.
Others believe a player like Caleb Williams is a no-brainer generational talent, who could instantly turn the franchise around.
This Bears fan ran a poll suggesting the team trades Fields, drafts Williams, keeps their head coach and fires their offensive coordinator. Surprisingly, the overwhelming number of votes went to “this is a terrible plan.”
Another fan chimed in and said moving Justin Fields would be an economic decision for the franchise and it’s the only move that make sense.
Yet another NFL fan believes Fields could thrive under a new coaching staff, and that’s the route the team should go.
And the opposite takes and rationale surrounding Justin Fields future with the Chicago Bears went on and on.
One thing is for certain, nobody knows what the Bears will do with Fields —and rumors and speculation will continue — until the Chicago Bears make an official decision.
