Breaking: SEC transfer OT planning to join Gators this week

An SEC transfer on the offensive line is planning to visit Florida this week

The Florida Gators have already added one name along the offensive line through the NCAA Transfer Portal, but have still been on the search for more names. One name that Swamp247 has been told to expect in town for an official visit later this week is former Arkansas offensive tackle Devon Manuel. According to a source close to Manuel, his visit is expected to take place over the course of January 3rd through the 5th. He’s also expected to visit Missouri this week as well following his time at Florida per the same source. He’s taken previous visits to both Oklahoma State and Kentucky as well in December.

Arkansas Razorbacks OL Devon Manuel to enter transfer portal

The 6-foot-9, 310-pound Manuel does not have a wealth of overall experience, but would give Florida some serious size and depth at tackle for 2024. Florida is set to return their two starting offensive tackles from this past season, but depth is welcomed. The redshirt sophomore Manuel went into the 2023 season as a projected starter at left tackle for the Razorbacks, but a camp injury slowed what was supposed to be his breakout season. Despite the injuries, Manuel managed to play in nine games, starting the final three games. According to Pro Football Focus, Manuel finished the 2023-24 season with an overall grade of 68.4 on 417 total offensive snaps. He also recorded a pass grade of 89.4, a pass block grade of 63.5 and a run block grade of 65.6. He entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on December 4.

Myles Graham and Aaron Chiles make a statement at Under Armour All-American practice

Under Armour All-American practice has officially ended with four Gators signees preparing for the nationally televised game on Wednesday evening. After a good week from all four signees, the pair of linebackers made a big statement in the final few days of practice. Team Fire defensive coordinator Reed Heim couldn’t say enough positive things about Gators’ linebacker signees Aaron Chiles and Myles Graham on Tuesday afternoon in Orlando.

Coach Reed Heim is currently the Head Football Coach at Denton Guyer High School where he coached several talented players including Oklahoma’s Jackson Arnold. The Guyer Wildcats recently won seven games this past season and finished fourth in their district.

“I’ve really been impressed from Day 1, we did a couple things that might take a regular kid a little bit of time to figure out, and those guys are just on point, and they’re just like sponges. They want to know if they’re doing things the right way,” Heim said. “They ask good questions, they communicate and they have some innate leadership ability. I think they’re both going to be exceptional players in college.”

The relationship both players have with each other has only made them better football players when on the field together. The chemistry is there, and the communication between the two future Gators is exactly where it needs to be.

“A couple things that jump out to me is number one they have a good relationship, you know, they didn’t go to the same high school, but you can tell they’ve already built some camaraderie and that goes to the recruiting process. So, obviously Florida did a good job getting those guys to get to know each other and build relationships. The second piece is that they’re both intelligent players, the size and the athleticism factor,” Heim said on both players. “I mean, they wouldn’t be going to Florida if they didn’t check that box. So, as far as do they look the part, do they move the part, absolutely.”

What seemed to impress people the most was the cover skills both players put on display, especially at their size. The ability to travel from hash-to-hash has helped them in that area. However, there’s always room to improve and both Graham and Chiles made that a top priority in such a short week.

“When you hear how good you are all your life, do you have a desire to get better. I feel like both of those guys really want to be good football players,” Heim said. “So, to me that’s the first sign of coachability, what’s their drive to be great, do they feel like they’ve arrived or do they feel like they’re hungry and ready to prove something when they get there. They’re going to be good college players and they’re very coachable.”

After having an impressive showing and improving each practice throughout the week, it was hard to find any weaknesses between the two linebackers.

The mistakes will be there as incoming freshmen, but Florida’s linebacker room should take the next step with the two All-American’s looking to make an early impact.

“Nothing about their game has gone woah that’s something that they need to work on,” Heim said on potential weaknesses.  “They’re at the Under Armour All-American game, they’re not going to have immediate deficiencies. I’ll talk to them about certain stuff, and they understand, there hasn’t been a mental gap.”

On Wednesday evening, both Chiles and Graham will look to make another big statement as the leaders of Team Fire’s linebacker unit. The game will be televised on ESPN at 4:00 PM EST at Camping World Stadium.
