BREAKING: 6-foot-4 Star will transfer to UGA, father says

The Georgia Bulldogs have gone into the transfer portal to add to their highly talented quarterback room.

The transfer portal has provided a fascinating wrinkle to the college football offseason for the past few seasons. An influx of players finding new teams has helped many bolster their roster and fill holes, all while simultaneously stressing other fan bases out.

Dec 26, 2023; Phoenix, AZ, USA; UNLV Rebels quarterback Jayden Maiava (1) roles out to pass against Kansas Jayhawks defensive lineman Jereme Robinson (90) during the first quarter in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl at Chase Field.

The Georgia Bulldogs have become quite familiar with the transfer portal and have made this year no exception as they have now nabbed another commitment. This time from quarterback Jayden Maiava.

Maiava is a 6-foot-4 quarterback from Las Vegas, Nevada, and appeared in five games this season for the UNLV Rebels. In those five games, he threw for 3,085 yards, 17 touchdowns, and had a completion percentage just shy of 64%.

Maiava’s addition to the Bulldogs’ roster likely stems from head coach Kirby Smart’s desire to have four scholarship quarterbacks on the roster. Smart even mentioned during a press conference in December that it was his goal to add another quarterback.

“Our hard number is four. We want to be at four, and we’re not at four. So again, we’ll look at our options and see what we can do there. We would like to be at four, but that’s our goal.”

-Kirby Smart during his National Signing Day press conference (12/20/23)

Before national signing day, the Bulldogs were set to have four scholarship quarterbacks on their roster. However, 5-star committment Dylan Raiola announced that he would be flipping to Nebraska just days before, leaving Georgia and Kirby Smart with just three scholarship quarterbacks for the 2024 season.

Now with the addition of Maiava, the Bulldogs are extremely likely to have their four scholarship quarterbacks as they into the 2024 season with the desire to return to national prominence and be crowned kings of college football once again.
