This college football expert doesn’t believe Kalen DeBoer will make it long in Tuscaloosa.

After legendary head coach Nick Saban retired, Alabama brought in Kalen DeBoer to replace him.

DeBoer was the head coach at Washinton, leading the Huskies all the way to the National Championship game after beating the Texas Longhorns in the College Football Playoff Semi-Final. The Huskies went on to face Michigan in the National Championship game, where they lost 34-13.

We found out days after this game that DeBoer would take over for Saban who is going to retire after a legendary career. It’s always said you don’t want to be the guy after the guy, and that is the situation DeBoer has walked into in Tuscaloosa. Expectations will be high for DeBoer after what Saban did during his long career coaching the Crimson Tide.

Clay Travis of Outkick joined The Next Round to talk about DeBoer. He was asked by The Next Round if DeBoer scares him at all as the head coach at Alabama. Travis responded, “Zero, that is the answer because Kalen DeBoer will be fired in about four years. Alabama fans are going to have completely unrealistic expectations. What I think Alabama fans are going to recognize and I think a lot of them already knew this but are seeing it now even clearer. Alabama didn’t have a dynasty; Nick Saban had a dynasty. Saban could of had a dynasty at ten to 12 maybe even 15 different college football programs. That’s how good he was. The success that he had I don’t think will ever equal at any point of any of our lives.”

Alabama Head Coach Kalen DeBoer Hires Top Assistant

The Alabama Crimson Tide has been going through rapid changes. After Nick Saban retired, the university moved swiftly to hire former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer. He is now working on filling out his staff and landed a huge assistant on Wednesday. Former Washington offensive line coach Scott Huff will come to Tuscaloosa.

Washington had an award-winning offensive line in 2023. The unit won the Joe Moore Award, which recognizes the nation’s top unit. He has been with the program since 2017 and has consistently had at least one lineman earn All-Pac-12 honors every year. CBS Sports analyst Aaron Taylor had this to say about the 2023 unit coached by Huff.

Huff will now get to coach at a program that has pumped out offensive line talent over the years.

A Massive Boost

The Crimson Tide have seen many of those award-winning linemen follow DeBoer to Tuscaloosa. They are already familiar with Huff, making the transition much easier. An elite offensive line can cover up many deficiencies. The key for next season is going to be giving quarterback Jalen Milroe time to make a play. If Huff can come in and give the team an elite offensive line, the SEC will have to watch out.

Count Alabama out at your own risk. This team is still full of talent, and DeBoer has shown he can lead a national championship-caliber team.

Moses, a former five-star in the Crimson Tide’s 2017 recruiting class, was on two College Football Playoff National Championship teams (2017, 2020). Injuries kept him from becoming an explosive superstar, but Moses did record a team-high 80 total tackles in 2020. He also had 6.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, three pass breakups, a forced fumble, and an interception in 2020. The first-team All-SEC selection in 2020 was not selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, but he did make the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad.

Moses signed with the Memphis Showboats of the United States Football League (USFL) on Nov. 1, 2023.
