The Las Vegas Raiders were just a game or two away from making the playoffs this season. Their offense was arguably the most significant reason they missed the postseason. Rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell was named the team’s starting quarterback halfway through the season as veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo struggled through the first half of the season.

The Raiders would replace Coach Josh McDaniels and Offensive Coordinator Mick Lombardi with first-time play-caller Bo Hardegree. While Hardegree and O’Connell performed admirably, they were also thrown into one of the most challenging situations in the National Football League.

That led to the Raiders hiring Kliff Kingsbury as their next offensive coordinator and will more than likely lead to the Raiders adding to their quarterback position at some point during this offseason. While O’Connell performed well overall, he sometimes left much to be desired from the quarterback position.

With a new general manager and a new offensive coordinator, the Raiders are all but sure to look to add to the quarterback position. The Raiders can choose to bring in free-agent quarterbacks, as they’ve been rumored to be considering, or they could use the NFL Draft to bring in a young, talented quarterback for Kingsbury and the Raiders’ coaching staff to help mold.

The Raiders reportedly met with one of the top quarterbacks in this year’s draft, Michael Penix. The quarterback was eager to show his skills at the Senior Bowl.

“Just building relationships here, building relationships with people, elevating myself as a person and player here,” Penix said. “Just trying to get to know as many people as I can, being out here in front of these coaches, to show my skills in front of them. I’m soaking in the moment. As long as I soak in all of the moments and get everything out of it I can, I feel like it will a great week for me.”

The Raiders have the No. 13 overall pick in this year’s draft. While they could choose to use that pick on a quarterback, they could easily decide to fill other positions on their roster and still gain a quality quarterback in the second or third round of the draft. Time will tell what the Raiders decide.
